Chances APS goes virtual after break?

Anonymous
I just saw the news about PG county — what are our chances of virtual school post break? I need to brace myself for impact…

It’s going to depend on a)how bad it gets and b) how many people and kids are getting seriously ill, not just testing positive.

Zero. State law doesn't permit it.

I think a lot of Republicans want schools to remain open. As they are frequently spoken about here, many red states were in person all last year.

Yes that’s the point. This will cause such a backlash that even in bluest of Arlington, republicans would have a chance. See exhibit 1 - Glenn Youngkin

I honestly feel like most people have forgotten about this.

They can close schools for specific outbreaks, so some may close briefly in January if omicron is really bad. But not immediately. It will take a few days or weeks for there to be enough counted cases to make that call.

So many kids are just recently vaccinated. I can’t believe we would have outbreaks at the elementary school level, and they are authorizing boosters for 12 and up soon, so can’t see there being huge outbreaks.

I’m just lol’ing remembering all those posts lambasting APE for still making open schools an issue during campaign. I hope this provides the push legislature needs to make sb1303 permanent.

Ugh everyone is just so absurd. Husband had a positive case at work and everyone else is negative because they wear masks religiously.

If the bars are open, the schools better damn well be open. I think there will be major pushback if schools are the only thing to close. And I don’t think Duran can close APS by law at this point. I didn’t vote for Youngkin, but I’m now somewhat grateful not to have a democrat running the state.

Don’t worry. Arlington has spoken, and there is no way they’d go virtual now. If they did, they’d do it for maybe a week just to control the spread. However, if you feel that teachers are frontline workers, you really need to support paying them as such. They just got smacked with huge classes, too.
