MCPS covid cases

How so? MCPS's policy should absolutely be to stay open. Schools should be the last thing to close, not the first.

MCPS has been clear we will stay open except if the state shuts us down. MoCo and MCPS will not take a stand and want to play victim. They are leaving it to the state that doesn't care.

A good and appropriate decision, clearly communicated. Good for MCPS.

No, it shows a huge lack of concern for our kids, staff and families. Parents now have to send their kids into unsafe situations and risk bring home an illness that is resistant to the vaccines and potentially a huge issue to many, including those with health issues.

What is more sad is our community cannot behave responsibly to help stop the spread and we need mandates in order to be more responsible.

If you're not comfortable sending your child, then keep your child home.

My kids are home. We saw this coming. Not a surprise at all.

Wow, Nostradamus. What else you got for us?

We got get your head out of the sand and see what has already happened in other parts of the world. It's really not hard. Get off this site and take a look. It's what the smart people do.

How do you think this particular episode ends? Pfizer/Moderna aren't creating variant-specific boosters. Omicron isn't going to get bored of people locking down and move on to the next county. Infections have to happen to begin conveying a new community shield of resistance. The only people that truly should be isolating are the over-65 crowd.

I think the more relevant question now is - will MCPS start the winter break early?

Don't see any indication that MCPS will start the winter break early. There are only a few days left.

You don't see any indication? Cases are out of control and other schools in Maryland have already shut down. LOL.

which ones have shutdown?

That’s been clear since the beginning.

Something is not always one thing or another. Let me try and speak a language your social justice classes have taught you to understand: risk mitigation is a on spectrum. There are things that have higher risks and things that have lower. There are activities where the reward is "worth it" and activities where it is not. There are activities where the risk to others is also a concern, and, again, activities where it is less of one.

I feel like the English classes at your Russian troll farm haven't really covered this level of linguistic relativity. And yes, spectrum isn't really the right word, either. I just thought it might be one you'd have come across when you were trolling the teenagers on TikTok. You know, at your second job?

We are only as safe as the least safe person that you interact with. So, when you decide something is safe or worth it, catch covid, don't stay home (or your family), you are taking risks for all of us, even those of us who are doing out best to be super cautious (and not the fake cautious).

MCPS is a joke in terms of covid safety.

This.

No, it should be mandatory weekly testing to be in person. Refuse and you homeschool or pay for private.

That doesn't make any sense from a relative risk perspective. Kids are the lowest risk group.

Right- I’m for students staying in school, but not at any cost. There may be a point schools need to transition to virtual instruction without playing chicken with the governor.

It appears it’s a county based decision and PG county moved forward with going virtual without the state. MCPS is waiting for the state to blink and push the blame elsewhere.

They wouldn’t close, they would just move to virtual.

The end game is when numbers are low, we have good vaccines, and the risks of long term health issues and death are reduced. Th new variant is highly contagious.

Kids bring home Covid to their families and community. Not everyone lives in a big house with multiple bathrooms where they can be separate.
