MCPS has been clear we will stay open except if the state shuts us down. MoCo and MCPS will not take a stand and want to play victim. They are leaving it to the state that doesn't care.

A good and appropriate decision, clearly communicated. Good for MCPS.

No, it shows a huge lack of concern for our kids, staff and families. Parents now have to send their kids into unsafe situations and risk bring home an illness that is resistant to the vaccines and potentially a huge issue to many, including those with health issues.

What is more sad is our community cannot behave responsibly to help stop the spread and we need mandates in order to be more responsible.

If you're not comfortable sending your child, then keep your child home.

My kids are home. We saw this coming. Not a surprise at all.

I think the more relevant question now is - will MCPS start the winter break early?

Don't see any indication that MCPS will start the winter break early. There are only a few days left.

You don't see any indication? Cases are out of control and other schools in Maryland have already shut down. LOL.

Why do people say "out of control" when they mean "going up"?

I said "out of control" because I meant "out of control." "Going up" is about the weakest way to say that cases are rising, and it doesn't capture the death and financial devastation that Omicron is about to inflict on the population, especially the unvaccinated.

It’s great that you were able to find some words to capture your hysterics, then.

How nice for you! That means you don't have to send your kids into unsafe situations, which means you can stop posting about it.

The majority in MCPS and MoCO are vaccinated. So, the question is what is going on given that its spreading through the vaccinated population.

A better question is whether "vaccinated" needs to be redefined. That one shot your MAGA uncle reluctantly got way back in February may no longer be enough to count him among the vaccinated.

Or, we need to take a serious look at how effective these vaccines are? We shouldn't need 3-4 shots in one year.

Fully vaccinated is two shots.

And, I don't have any uncles (well, technically one but I have seen him in 40 years). And, he makes MAGA people look good.

Well, yes, because that's how we've defined it so far. But it's probably time to redefine it.

I think we're already taking a serious look at how effective vaccines really are. And so far, the verdict seems to be that the current vaccines, while still very good, are less effective against Omicron than against previous variants.

If they are very good and effective, why are we having large numbers of outbreaks in vaccinated people. They are good at reducing symptoms but not spread.

You answered your own question. That's why they're good and effective.

So no more predictions then?

MCPS was wrong to make substantial statements like never shutting down schools. There are no black and white decisions when it comes to a pandemic. This isn’t saying they should move to virtual or not. They’ve now backed themselves into a corner by trying to pass the buck off to Hogan.

MCPS did not say that. Here is what MCPS said: "MCPS will only close schools and shift to virtual instruction if required to do so by local and/or state government officials." That's a completely appropriate thing for them to say, and good for them for saying it.
