Emory vs Georgetown

Should we EA GU and ED2 Emory or just go all in ED1 for Emory? Or should we look into other options all together?

DS 3.82UW, 1470 is retaking. Highest rigor. Full pay.

If you prefer Gtown then why not shoot your shot there since you can always ED2 Emory?

Major? Without more detailed information, no one can answer this question. ED Emory if it's your absolute first choice. Otherwise EA G-town, ED2 Emory.

Your DS has nothing to lose applying EA to Georgetown. Does your DS like Emory enough to commit to ED2?

you would know GU EA's results prior to ED2

Very different schools. Anyway, all EA to Georgetown gets you is two bites at the apple, Georgetown makes sure to keep acceptance rate the same between EA and RD. It's going to be a very tough year for Georgetown acceptance given this is their first year on the common app. Expect already low acceptance rate to plummet.

ED2 at Emory doesn't provide much of an advantage, but ED1 has close to a 30 percent aceeptance rate.

If one is going on strategy alone, the easy choice is to ED1 Emory. Probably three to four times liklihood of acceptance of Georgetown EA.

If OPs don't provide basic information, like a student's academic interest, I'm going to assume it's a troll.

I have a student at one of these schools, but I'm not going to add to this thread if you are just looking for broad judgment to the schools listed.

I have a student who applied to both, got into one, and is at one of the two. Emory is great for business and pre-med. Georgetown for IR/government. Two different schools with different social vibes. More older money/famous people kids at Georgetown whereas Emory is more “New South”/immigrant/Northern transplant.

Emory has become what Hopkins is perceived to be --dominated by gunners, especially pre meds who don't care much about anything beside academics. Hopkins is actually more fun -- with more dynamic greek life and a much bigger sports scene. Georgetown lacks greek life, but is much more work hard, play hard than emory.

Gtown name means much more to employers and grad schools.

Emory and Georgetown are sister schools really. At least when it comes to campus culture and student body. Emory is Georgetown for minorities.

Emory gets really difficult RD because they fill most of their class ED 1 and 2. My kid got into 4 Ivies RD but not Emory. Would not have picked it but Emory RD is hard. Kid was also rejected RD from Vanderbilt and Boston College---2 more ED-heavy schools.

No, they are not.

At Georgetown, everyone submits a standardized test score.

At Emory, half go test optional.

For government. A wash on business. But for everything else, Emory is the better comprehensive school.

For whatever reason, Georgetown doesn't really do science, tech, engineering, cs and so on. Plus Georgetown is much more a rich kid school these days. It's limiting.

Does your kid have any hooks? Lots of community service? Georgetown loves numbers, and those scores are low (especially for EA) at Georgetown. Would probably have a better shot RD, but then you'd have to forego the ED bump at Emory.
