College and University Discussion

The Justice Department concluded after a year-long investigation that Yale School of Medicine discriminated in admissions by favoring Black and Hispanic applicants over White and Asian applicants, saying Yale continued using race or race-linked factors after the Supreme Court’s 2023 affirmative-action ruling. DOJ cited admissions data and internal documents, including a claim that similarly qualified Black applicants had much higher interview odds than Asian applicants. Yale had not commented in the Washington Post report, and the case fits a broader Trump administration push against race-conscious admissions and DEI practices in higher education.

| And we trust this DOJ so much. |

Civil Rights Act of 1964 bans racial discrimination.
If people want positive discrimination or racial diversity, they have to either do it in a race-blind way (like geography, or discriminating by partisan affiliation, like Republican legistatures do) or pass an amendment to the Civil Rights Act. But DOJ need to have evidence. If they make an argument based on disparate impact, that opens floodgates. Grades and GPA beyond some basic qualifying threshold aren't relevant to graduating med school or being a doctor. There's no need to admit only the highest MCAT scorers. If colleges can admit white kids for playing lax and rowing crew, they can admit black kids for living in Baltimore |

When you had universities thrashing about when SFFA came out, did anyone believe these institutions would obey the constitution? If they get federal funds, they can't be racist.
It is a simple proposition. |
Uh, lawyer here, do you not understand that the 1964 civil rights ACT applies? |
Why not get rid of it? Republicans have gutted VRA, might as well take out the CRA. Everyone can discriminate who they want to. |
| This is a bummer as studies have shown repeatedly that health outcomes for black patients (especially for chronic conditions) are much better when they see black physicians. Individuals in race-matched pairings are far more likely to see their doctors and even their mortality rate decreases |
This DOJ is going to find that every medical school was doing it. They're not going to stop until the demographic they're targeting stops applying completely. |
Racist!!! |
Don't trust anything that this administration has to say about medical recommendations, medical research, medical schools or anything related to medicine. |
| asians and white - that's the key.. can't just be asians cause nobody cares.. and can't just be white cause .. really? |
Who cares about anything this administration has to say about medically related issues? Live in that world if you want to but I don't recommend it. Anti-science, anti-medicine , anti-vax, anti-research. |
Not a bummer at all. Don’t you want all doctors to meet the same qualifications regardless of race? |
| By that logic, if more Asians apply then you have no choice but to have an admission pool that mirrors exactly that % or you are accused of discrimination. Wild. |
No, that isn’t how this works. Just need same admission criteria for all. |
