Which would you choose and why?
Regular housecleaning Therapist Personal Trainer I’m pretty unhappy in almost all areas right now, but I think committing to one of the above will help (for the sake of this discussion, assume I’m not currently self-motivated enough to clean the house, work out effectively, or pursue self-help strategies alone). |
| Therapist |
| I'd hire the therapist and ask them to help you with getting motivated to work out at home. |
| Therapist because it's most likely to help with motivation generalgenerally. Look up a couch to 5k program to start running and a friend to hold you accountable. You start off easy with mostly walking and build up to running very gradually. The key is to do a little exercise of some kind every day to make it a habit. |

For my money, I'd go with the housecleaner.
I don't find therapy to be worth money. (Others, obviously, have had different experiences. I've tried several, and it never moves the needle.) If you have insurance that will cover it, sure, why not. But if you're paying out of pocket, you'll just feel poorer. If you get the personal trainer, you might get fit, but you'll come home to a dirty house that you're too tired to clean. And for me-- again, YMMV-- a clean house is absolutely essential to my wellbeing. |
| A therapist. A clean house and a thin waistline will not make you happy. Go to therapy, find actually happiness, then worry about the other two. |
I agree with this. I tried therapy and didn't find it helpful. For training you can try some classes and online videos. FWIW I think training can be a limited thing, get some advice and routine and then apply it going forward. For house cleaning, you do have to be realistic in expectations, unless you're paying through the nose they won't do say, dishes and laundry. I have house cleaners once a month and they primarily do surfaces but it helps a lot. Basically: have reasonable expectations for any of those 3 things. |

Housecleaning! I hate it so much. I tried the therapist - it was very moderately helpful until it wasn't. I would hate having a personal trainer and prefer to exercise on my own (not enough, but better than nothing).

Is therapist covered by insurance? When my kid went we paid $10 per visit. Didn’t impact our finances.
We have a cleaner every 2 weeks. I wouldn’t want to give that up. Personal trainer would be a no for me. You can Google search ways to get back to exercising/working out |
| Housecleaning. Get your act together, yourself, unless you're mentally ill or disabled and need the help of professionals |
| Cleaner. |
| Another vote for house cleaner. In my experience, therapists have been minimally helpful and it’s another thing on my to-do list, another thing to pencil into a busy calendar. The only one of your options that gives you time, instead of taking it, and gets something off your plate is the house cleaner. And that’s worth it, for sure. |
