Agenda is up but materials haven't posted yet: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=DN3SAM71AE00

This is one to follow closely, especially if you have a gifted or advanced student.

Reminder of the 2023 version of “enriched” and “acceleration”. All surface level branding and superficial electives , no content depth. No objective measures of achievement, just brand names to buy.

And that presentation focused on high school. My understanding is this one is on elementary... particularly on compacted math.

Ha - If this BOE cared about accelerated learning, they would not have dealt heavy blows to the Blair and Poolesville magnets, and RMIB.

It is only given half an hour, and except for Yang, no one else in BOE will care about this topic. This is just the unfortunate fact. And honestly, I don't care at this point if they just scrape off all enrichment/acceleration opportunities. It's the poor and under-resourced student body that is going to be hurt, and my children do not belong. The rest BOE members are just hurting the minority students that they claim to care about.

Well that’s exactly the point. Many are concerned about what’s happening to compacted math and the CES program

I think at least one of Montoya's kids is currently doing compacted and/or accelerated math? (I believe her kids are in 4th and 6th, or something like that.) I could be wrong though.

I know Stewart's kid went through RMIB so I presume he got a lot of the acceleration and enrichment opportunities in prior years as well, although if they tell her that whatever they're changing is more equitable she will probably just go along.

Most of them don’t care about the disparities between the schools.

Here is what was presented regarding identification of and programming for gifted and talented students last spring: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DG9QEH68EDDF/$file/May%205%202025%20Special%20Populations%20Committee.pdf

Of course they aren't posting the presentation at least 4 days in advance as their own BOE policy requires. They don't want people to know in advance of the meeting the changes they are making to take away the last bit of GT access we have now.

People can still write to the board about how important GT access is and why watering it down does not make it equitable, that is not equity

I guess they want to completely tank our community. Who the hell will want to live in this county if the schools aren't that good?
