Legal internship openings leaked info/gpa irrelevant but Trump allegiance required

Liberty University’s law school sent students an email about summer internships and said the most important thing is that applicants “MUST be aligned politically with President Trump and his administration.”

The email told students that “GPA is not a strong factor.”

Students who get interviews will reportedly face traditional questions along with political ones, including whether they voted for Trump, whether they disagree with him on anything, and what they think about specific executive orders.

With the current hiring climate AND Trump eliminating DEI bc meritocracy should be the only consideration….

Thoughts?

What do you mean? “thoughts?” It’s illegal.

I read an article about this, and it included interviews with some employees from previous administration who were never asked about their affiliation in any way.

Clearly not illegal for federal appointees. DH was up for a very high level position within DoD. He has never posted anything political on any social media, was extremely well qualified, and got through all gatekeepers until the final one where they do a search to make sure that you are a Trump supporter. Meaning posting pro Trump, liking pro Trump postings, donating. Failed on that. Post is still open 6 months later.

Did your husband’s sought after job say traditional qualifications are irrelevant?

If you apply for ANY federal job right now you have to answer the questions below:
#3 is especially crazy--you have to pick an Trump Executive Order that you agree with. Let me tell you, having read through them all to help my kid with this---it isn't easy. My son almost went with the one banning paper straws.

1. How has your commitment to the Constitution and the founding principles of the United States inspired you to pursue this role within the Federal government? Provide a concrete example from professional, academic, or personal experience. (limit 1,200 characters)

2. In this role, how would you use your skills and experience to improve government efficiency and effectiveness? Provide specific examples where you improved processes, reduced costs, or improved outcomes. (limit 1,200 characters) In this role with the Federal government, I’d use my skills in organization, planning, and team management to help the government work more efficiently.

3. How would you help advance the President's Executive Orders and policy priorities in this role? Identify one or two relevant Executive Orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired. (limit 1,200 characters)

4. How has a strong work ethic contributed to your professional, academic or personal achievements? Provide one or two specific examples, and explain how those qualities would enable you to serve effectively in this position. (limit 1,200 characters)

I was a Russian major during the 90s so spent a lot of time studying the Soviet Union and even they weren’t this bad. They really cared about stuff like grades!

Any executive branch employee in a non-independent agency would have been able to answer these questions honestly in any administration. Our job has always been to execute presidential priorities and executive orders, within the bounds of the law.

Why wouldn't the website just post the entire email instead of excerpts from the email?

I actually would be OK with 3 because as a long time civil servant I am under no delusions that Democratic administrations always have the right policy goals. And yes you do need to be able to implement the current admins policies as a civil servant. Even the paper straw EO has merit that I could discuss! The real issue is when hiring becomes more nakedly partisan and requiring support of a candidate (vs just supporting current admin policies which is totally different).

And THIS is the correct response. 99% Acceptance rate. Main thing you have to do is demonstrate you're aligned with the school's philosophy. I'm beyond curious about who actually "teaches' there. I'd never want this school on my resume.

My friend took the bar in Virginia and said she was chatting with some Liberty grads during the lunch break and they did not know about the separation of church and state. Like literally did not know it is enshrined in the Constitution.

Having that be the job is not the same as picking AN order you support. These questions beg for bs responses.
