Wash U v Emory

Seeing lots of Wash U commits and fewer Emory commits this year. Curious. Similar schools in urban areas in red states.

No!!...you are going to summon the Emory poster again. Why???

Both are great for pre-med. WashU has engineering while Emory doesn't, unless you count their joint program with Georgia Tech. WashU's quality of life is definitely better than Emory's. WashU's dorms in what they call "South 40" are luxurious and remind me of Disneyland. The campus is amazingly well-kept. When we visited both campuses, WashU made us feel more welcome than Emory. They arranged for my kid to have lunch with a current student followed by a chat with a campus staff, which Emory didn't (and no one else did, to be fair). For the ranking-obsessed, 20 is a million times smaller than 24, allowing them to say their kids attend a t20. Emory's Oxford campus is also a bit of a head-scratcher, although applicants can certainly indicate they don't want Oxford. Based on these reasons I could see why students prefer WashU over Emory. My kid would, too, if these are the only options.

Isn't that a bad thing for WashU? They both only released ED. So if washu accepted more ED students then they would have more commits because its binding. Emory also received a lot more applicants than WashU so its a harder admit.

I dont see how the quality of life in Sl. Louis is better than Atlanta. Emory receives more applicants so it being T25 over T20 doesn't seem to deter them especially when WashU being Top20 is a technicality as its in 4 way tie at 20. Also Emory has better Business and nursing programs, the two most popular majors currently. Nice try though.

I agree with quality of life part. Nice dorms, nice campus, nice food, nice many things at Washu.
On the other hand, weather is better at Emory, particularly in the winter season. Oxford is more premed friendly, less weedout.
The ranking observation is real. To many kids and parents, T20 is an important bragging right though there is no difference in quality of education substantively.

Other than the quality of life point, those aren't opinion, just facts. Emory receives more applicants, emory has a higher ranked business and nursing program. Business and Nursing are the two.most popular majors in the country. Next time just keep it to theyre both great top ranked schools so you won't have to be embarrassed.

Both Emory and Wash U are located in attractive areas in their respective cities.

Types of students at each school? Dominant vibe?

I dont think most students care about the T20 distinction as you say. If WashU was ranked 14 and Emory 24, that might be different but that clearly idnt the case. Emory receives more apps for a reason.

Sorry to chime in…WashU has the top 3-5 medical school of the country. It’s just in a different league. Emory and Vanderbilt are both quite overrated, imho.

Now I understand the Emory troll warning from the second poster on this thread. Lesson learned.

Same school, different cities.

You made a thread to troll and it fell flat is more like it. If what GCs are saying is true, WashU had another decline in apps this year.
