| I was part of a Red Hats group way back in the day. Anywhere from 6 to 12 would show up. It was just a way to have lunch once a month, try out new restaurants, make a few new friends. But that was it. We never got into the conventions and state or National stuff. Just a really good monthly visit with everyone. |

I see a lot of similarities. Both grew up in evangelical culture, both have main character syndrome, both married early and had lots of kids. I think Jen has more education but more similarities than not. |

Something struck me in the latest fb post about Ireland. Jen says that her friends are "family"- the best kind, the kind you "choose". That, my dear lady, defeats the lesson of family. You don't get to choose. You learn to get along, to compromise, to sacrifice. You don't have "admirers", fans or followers. You have people that knew you "when"-, who changed your diapers, who
bought you acne medicin, who played in the mud with you. Yes, there are toxic families that must be left behind, but in general, you don't get to pick family. You are not the boss and they are not your "tribe". |

Yes, but the lie that Jen is selling, which is also the lie that our culture is broadly embracing and selling is exactly the belief that life should only be what you choose and nothing else. We've taken this idea so far that we now reject the givenness of anything, including sex and gender. Reality is what I/we say it is and nothing else. Any claim to the contrary is seen as oppression. Of course, all that is an illusory lie and the way of death. Jen is literally just one more voice among the many whispering, "Did God really say..? You won't die! God knows your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God..!" |
