Awake came out a little less than 2 months ago.
Best Sellers Rank: #2,183 in Books |
| I requested Awake from my library on 10/16. I'm currently number 64 of 74 requests for it. There are a lot of us who want to read it but not pay for it! |

How long did Sass have to sit on that uncomfortable stool for that one appearance?
And why do these people like to shout to the rooftops that they have "no f's to give" when they have to give their precious hot take for literally every thing that is reported in the media? Either you give a crap or you don't. Sass and his cancer! Good night. He acts like he has stage IV bone cancer the way he carries on. Sis's engagement numbers spike considerably with the political postings- are many of the responses bots, though? |

Jen's past books (and I am an OG Modern Girl's Bible study reader) actually taught, inspired, amused and entertained me. Her Bible studies reflected a real knowledge and respect for the texts, and her other books like 7 and Interrupted were uncomfortably convicting but laced with real optimism and supposedly true illustrations of how to serve our neighbors who are suffering invisibly.
The Awake book, which I sped-read at B&N the first week of its release, left me kind of sad for her. It was a portrait of a woman drifting from truth and real community. Her earlier books had anecdotes, often funny and warm, about the various personalities in her family and her church and how to strive to have fellowship with them out of a love based on Christ's love. Awake is about relying on yourself as the sole source of wisdom and love and guidance; it does not inspire. It is not amusing. It is empty. |
The F joke wasn’t funny and fell flat. Siss and Sass sat there in silence until they got the reaction they wanted. So lame and boring. |
| Sorry but I would never date a lifelong bachelor long distance who only seems to have women friends. You know he’s “comforting” them on the regular and they probably take pleasure in messing with Jen. |
|
| Absolutely right! How self-centered must one be, when deciding to leave, can't be happy until they can talk others into leaving as well! It is beyond sad, and she is too narcissistic to care! |
| Jen, you don’t have to do this anymore. Get off the treadmill. Let it down. Let it go. You know this isn’t right. You know how unhealthy this all is. Deep inside, you know. |
| Do she and Tyler ever spend holidays together? |
| No but he is there for every trip |
| She pays for the airfare I’m sure 🙄 |
|
We have no way of knowing if Jen pays for Tyler’s flights and hotel rooms and Broadway tickets and trips, of course.
But if she was is that really the sort of relationship she wants? |
|
Tyler in Jen's life completely undermines any kind of newly-acquired awareness she claims in Awake.
Two of Jen's internet besties, Jamie and Kristen, went through their own terrible divorces (and Jamie's was compounded by the tragedy of losing her youngest son to suicide around that time) and they are both with local, seemingly well-adjusted MEN who appear to love them and their families dearly. I wish the same for Jen. |

I just laugh when I see Tyler tagging along with Jen and the Austin cohort. Whatever do these guys talk about? They just want to have a nice European vacation and Jen brings along some goofball in gimmicky t shirts.
It is the most bizarre thing and I can't believe her family and friends haven't suggested she find a more suitable guy. You have to have friends in your life who are willing to speak truth to you, even when it hurts. |
