What is the idea, it’s like a sale?

Nothing. I have not been impressed by DC restauarant week in years. It always feels like they cheap out and it's not really a "deal." Like going to a restauarant for the prix fixe meal on Valentines Day.

After 9/11, this began in NYC to get people back in restaurants. Then it spread to DC and elsewhere.

Restaurants offer a discounted three-course lunch, brunch, and/or dinner, sometimes offering their full menu but sometimes more limited.

Can be a chance to try a new cuisine or a place that would otherwise be a bit of a stretch. Enjoy.

They have smaller plates for less money. It usually falls on my birthday week, so, like it or. not I end up going out on that week.

I usually go to Jaleo or Oyamel or Zatinya. They all have generous menus.

We liked this better when we were younger and trying to save a buck but sometimes its still fun.

A group of us are going to River Club in Georgetown

Prices are ridiculously high.
Fiola Mare used to be our fave.

Big plates with less food, more sugar+ butter+fake olive oil at higher prices.

It used to be so much better. I remember when the lunch deals were always the year (so in 2008, cost was $20.08) and lots of restaurants used their usual menu instead of limited menus. I just looked at all the ones near my office and home and they were all pretty uninspiring for tje price, sadly.
Am curious if anyone found anything that looks particularly good.

We went out to eat today at North Italia (Foggy Bottom), but just ordered off the regular menu without getting the prix fixe at $55 pp. It just seemed like too much food, and I suspected it wasn't going to be great food anyway. I was right, the dishes were a bit disappointing.

I dont know why you’d choose a mid chain for restaurant week.

Because I'd promised my GW college kid a restaurant meal tonight near his campus, and he was in the mood for pasta I didn't actually realize it was restaurant week until we were handed the special menu...

^maybe they cater to college students coming in after drinking? They wouldn't know the difference if food is good or not at that point. Haven't been to this one near GW

So you didn’t actually go for restaurant week. So weird to comment on this post then. But since you did, I will say this is an average chain with locations in the suburbs. Very odd with the other good Italian options in the city that the restaurant would choose to open in foggy bottom. It is not cheap by any means.
