What’s the plan for their futures?

I can only hope my parents finally get divorced in old age. My mom has always deserved better.

Never heard of this. I would think they'd have to be wealthy retired. Other retired wouldn't be able to consider it.

Prepare yourself for a financial nightmare.

You will probably either be disinherited or stuck taking care of your dad.

At least they gave it a try.

Grey divorce is a thing, OP. Quite common.

Shocking how everyone just thinks of money!

Financially, that just seems crazy. Why not just informally separate?

I'd be so angry if my parents did this. It's ALL going to fall on you now as their kid. Even little appts like eye appts where they dilate your eyes will need someone to drive the parent. Parents should be helping each other through sicknesses in old age and not burdening their kids. And multiple holidays now...

My aunt and uncle did this and financially they really never recovered.

My aunt and uncle did this. My uncle remarried and was a happier human being. My aunt remained bitter and angry. My cousins were each closer to one parent and that's who they took/take care of. My uncle has passed away but my aunt is still alive.

This.

Financially it's a disaster. They can't afford as much divorced as they could have together. Your dad will likely remarry and she'll get everything.

Why? Doesn't Oregon still have medical assistance in dying? Becoming a worthless hassle other others is a choice.
