At least 2 members were out. One had a baby born last night in Not DC. Another has his mothers funeral tomorrow. McCarthy should need 218 is everyone is present and votes.

So if this Motion to Vacate makes its way into the rules, are we going to be doing this again over and over again for the next two years? Seems like it will be pretty easy for the Ds to put together a coalition with the anti-McCarthy people (who will surely get pissed off at all kinds of things McCarthy does) and get him booted.

David Trone needs to get there asap.

David Trone. He had a medical appointment.

If it just takes one member to trigger a vote, democrats should do it on a daily basis. All you need is one day with a few republicans no present and you get chaos.

How many DAYS until the motion to vacate after McK is elected? Will lettuce last longer?

So who is going to deny McCarthy unanimity? Gaetz and Boebert would be my guess. With any luck, they'll become pariahs in their own party, if they aren't already.

Why are they pariahs? They are raising tons of cash.

I fully expect the rules package is going to get bogged down in a fight just like this one. McCarthy has been making all kinds of deals with lots of people. Just wait until the rest of them figure out what he agreed to.

He's a prime example of the extreme primaries. He took Gilcrest's seat. Gilcrest was a moderate R who was very protective of the chesapeake bay. Harris is a MAGA power seaker without the pizazz of Gaetz.

Could some of the Rs not show up? Then this would be over.
Could some of the R’s put the well-being of the country over their party? Then this would be over.
Could the Rs nominate a sane, moderate candidate, willing to work for bipartisan goals? Then this would be over.
Could some of the Rs just vote for the Democratic candidate? Then this would be over.

The Rs have been working towards where they are now for a very long time. Did it truly never concern the party as a whole that supporting politicians who don’t value having a functioning government— would at some point lead them to not having a functioning government?

Thanks for the template PP.
