What age did your DD get a second piercing?

And how did you decide that was the right age?

My DD (age 11) is asking for a second piercing on her ears. I feel like she is too young, and feel like it’s fine to make her wait until she is 18. But I see other girls her age have a second piercing, and definitely girls older than she is (but likely under 18).

Curious to hear from other parents how they decided when the right time was for their kids if it was under 18.

Definitely not before HS! 11 is WAY too young.

I know DCUM will disagree, but if she’s responsible and self sufficient with her current piercings, then I’d allow a second lobe piercing. Make it a forbidden fruit and that’s how they end up with a huge regrettable tattoo at 18.

I can't remember - 13 maybe? And then she got a third in 9th grade but it closed up. I would allow it if she takes good care of her first piercing. I don't see it as a big deal, though.

18?!? For a second hole in her ears? Come on.

I got mine in fifth grade. Smart thing my mother did - "I will let you get a second hole in your ears, and in fact, I will even pay for it, IF you are willing to commit, right now, to never ever getting another piercing anywhere in your body ever."

I thought it over, decided it was worth it, and made the commitment. Got that second hole, and when eyebrow piercings were all the rage in high school, I didn't even bother to ask.

So, a technique to think about. Worked out well for me (and my mother).

11 is young, but 18 is an over correction. I think I got my second when I was 12 but I was in 8th grade then. 18 is crazy, I had a third set and cartilage by then.

I'm with you. That multiple tiny earring look is very popular and mainstream, a second hole is not a big deal to me.

same. my 16 year old has triple piercings in each ear and a cartilage in one ear. She is a straight A student and probably getting an athletic scholarship to college.
