Fwiw I live in NYC so I’d sublet my place for a year or two but would not move entirely.

I can't really go that far because my parents and DW's parents live within a 1-2 hour triangle of us and each other. I am also kind of stuck here because of my kids' friends/activities and the low interest rate on our mortgage.

I would live in Seattle and visit Olympic National Park on the regular. Truth is, I'd love to live in Olympic Park, but you said to keep it practical with wifi, so Seattle it is

Once DH retires in a few years, this will be us. I’d like to rent our house and spend 6 months in various locations where I have never lived such as the desert SW, Mackinac Island, Montana, etc.

Op exactly! I don’t want to move permanently but would like to rent for a year or two, and check out some other places.

Well, assume kids are out of the house in college. And that you’d rent your home out, not sell.
