| It's totally believable. A clean CR would have avoided a shutdown while allowing for negotiations around Democratic political priorities. Instead, blackmail was employed to try to force those priorities through without further negotiation. It's a form of either extortion, or a negotiating tactic, depending on your perspective, but in either case it's attributable to the Democrats. |

The GOP used their simple majority reconciliation vote on the OBBBA. What did you THINK would happen when their shit management skills brought us to a shutdown and they had already blown their whole wad a few months earlier on alienating everyone they would need to pass a CR? I mean seriously. |

| Republicans control the 3 branches of government. They could have averted a shutdown if they had compromised on the CR to get Dems to vote for it. Writing a crappy CR and hope the Dems vote for it is not a way to govern. |

Negotiations around Democratic priorities? Republicans took away the healthcare subsidies in the Big Ugly Bill but we believe that they are going to come to the table to negotiate what they took away? Why would Democrats believe them? Republicans should have thought about this when they wouldn't negotiate with Dems on the OBBBA. Why didn't they negotiate then? Now they need something. |
