Who are some major figures who would be cancelled if they were around today?

I'm not talking about how, like, everyone up until 300 years ago owned slaves... but, for example, how we all now know that Eric Clapton is a total garbage racist and if in his heyday there was social media, he'd have been sent far far away.

John Lennon too—the wife beating, the heroin, abandoning his kid... all that floated around, but I don't think it was OUT there and people let slide a lot of things like domestic abuse.

Mickey Mantle... apparently a major creep, who would've been Me-Too-ed.

I hate the cancel culture.

Didn't Albert Einstein take credit for work his wife did?

Yeah, but as much as I like Eric Clapton's music, the man is really vile. I don't want anything to do with him. People get cancelled—at least the ones who are truly cancelled—because people don't want what their selling.

Hadn't heard that... that might also be an example of a thing where because of the time, his wife never could have had her work published so giving it to him is the way to do it—I guess the question would be whether he would do the same thing today? I'm not sure it'd be cancellable, but there'd be a celebrity divorce.

Yeah... Rob Lowe is super weird because he continues to exist in this era and that whole thing is talked about publicly... by him!

Well, Bill Clinton is pretty much there. He's not welcome in most scenarios... doesn't stop him from coming, but no one wants him around.

JFK would probably fall into the same category as Trump—people would find it charming that he does disgusting things.

Jesus Christ. He preached love

Pretty much everyone. Maybe Lawrence Welk would make it.

Oh that guy is hiding something.

I think actually most people would be fine. You actually have to be a pretty big POS to get cancelled… the lack of pervasive media really helped guys lack Clapton and Lennon hide their ways.

This. Jesus was the first person cancelled by the culture of the time.

Nothing has changed that would prevent a repeat.
