When we were househunting in another cheaper area, I still gravitated to the older ranch/ramblers or colonials even though we could have bought in an area with mcmansions.

Of course dear

I can happily disabuse you of that notion. I want none of that. So there ya go.

Deep down, ya do

If it would shatter your worldview to believe otherwise, who am I to wreck your life? I just feel sorry for you that your mind cannot conceive of any feelings different from your own.

No the people who want 5,000 SF houses in Bethesda and a Range Rover secretly want a life in which they do not have to trade the traipsing for a mature relationship with life

China will take over the world via Africa. When manufacturing costs rose in China they began to move plants to Africa where labor is even cheaper. Look for China to have even a larger presence in the world economy with ever cheaper junk that those in the Us will buy to placate children they do not understand how to discipline and fill their silly big houses. The best thing us like the oil companies, China may be able to control some of Africa!s diseases in an effort to preserve their cheap labor pool

I can't wait until the Tiger moms take over US schools

I'm fat and I'm happy. I don't want to suffer in the gym and worry about what I eat all the time. I don't care if men like me or not (not married).

Yeah, nothing, absolutely nothing you have said here follows any logical thought pattern at all.

Why would you need a gas guzzler to live closer in?

What does preferring ranches and ramblers over McMansions have to do with anything as many people dislike both?

How are these minority opinions? Perhaps you should reread the question. Your comprehension and communication skills are very low.

This thread has been populated by knuckle dragging, borderline illiterate morons and should be deleted. It's an embarrassment to the site, really.

I was responding to the 5000 sf in Bethesda with a range rover comment. Sorry that you somehow missed that.

The PP was saying (s)he would like to live closer-in (probably addressing the part about living in Bethesda), but would not want a gas guzzling SUV or McMansion. No one said anything about living closer in = driving a gas guzzler.

I don't understand why people in big houses with big cars can't imagine that anyone else might value other things in life such as wanting to live in a smaller, more manageable home where your kids aren't two floors away from you. Some of us prefer public transit or a low gas milage sedan over an SUV. Personally, I am embarrassed by America's reputation for consuming so much gas and building such large homes compared to the rest of the world.

People who live in big houses (or really houses at all) hate the planet. Also, if you live in the suburbs, you are dull and watch a lot of TV.

I am a huge environmentalist and animal rights person. And I love the Range Rovers, that sexy beast of a car. If they made an electric one, i would be all over that.

Right, because all city dwellers take full advantage of the city amenities every day and never turn on their tv's...the stupid actually hurts.

And people who live in the suburbs can never walk to a coffee shop, go for a jog on nearby trails, Uber into the city for dinner, go to a weekend farmer's market, etc.

Yup, those of us in the suburbs just sit on the couch watching tv all the time

Funny, I was going to add that exact thing to my first post. We walk to a lot of places. We especially did when we lived in Reston, which is routinely bashed on these boards. We loved it there.
