When I read the phrase "check your privilege" online this is what comes to mind.

If you have access to electricity and running water, then you are privileged.

There isn't a mobile OS out there more plain/ugly than iOS. iOS works great and is simple to use. But you can't change how it looks, at all. Android you can customize as you feel. Try that with iOS.

So as I age, I should start bashing gay people and saying poor folks are lazy?

I don't know a single conservative that says or even thinks/believes this. It's usually liberals running around saying that this is happening when really it isn't at all.

Let me clarify, about gay people or poor people.

???? the entire GOP platform regarding social issues is based on the idea that giving poor people help takes away "incentive" to do more, that giving them support makes them sit around and do nothing but "take", they spin up their base by disparaging and targeting poor people all the time

You are wrong and uninformed.

NP here. I am enraged by all the free stuff SN parents get that have nothing to do withy their child's SN. I can kinda see the free PT/OT/Speech maybe, but my very wealthy friend also gets FOR FREE from the county: preschool withh bus service, 42 hours/week nanny, Medicaid and food stamps. FOR FREE. And the nanny does her laundry and watches her NT kids too!!

Uh, wha? Food stamps is a means-based program, as is Medicaid -- if they are indeed "very wealthy" then they wouldn't be eligible for those programs. And I've never heard of a free nanny, no way. Maybe an aid in the classroom? If her child is eligible for a free special needs preschool and full-time aid, you shouldn't be enraged or envious...it means her child is quite disabled.

It's all true. The means test for Medicaid/food stamps is done ON THE KID, who has no assets. All his copays and RX's are paid by Medicaid, and his food is bought with food stamps. In addition to preschool five days a week, his mom is allowed 42 hours of nanny care paid. She does not work, has two NT kids, lives in a 6000sf house and drives a large luxury SUV. Her SN child walks, talks, eats, and is potty trained, he is just delayed pretty significantly. I don't see why she needs a tax payer paid nanny because of that.

I agree she doesn't need the nanny! For how many years Does the child get the nanny?

I don't get the walkathons for charities.

Yeah, I don't get walkathons, runs, and charity balls either. Why not just give money in the first place. Staging and organizing all that crap COSTS money. Just give money and cut out all that nonsense.

Agree!!!!!

Or the ones who want to do a race in hawaii and part of the money i donate goes to their flight and hotel cost!

Most SAHP agree to this because it is best for the family. If one spouse's income is high enough to support the family and the other parent is okay with household management instead of a paid profession this works very well. End of story. So sick of all the sahm/sahp bashing and hating on here. Shut the fuck up already.

Being home with small kids was far easier for me than older ones. My parents both worked and they drove me to school.

I can happily disabuse you of that notion. I want none of that. So there ya go.

+1. I have a 2,600 sq ft house and it feels huge to me. I can't imagine ever wanting to maintain something bigger. Plus I grew up in a nearly 5,000 sq ft McMansion outside Atlanta with fancy SUVs and such. Not at all the lifestyle I want for myself.

I'd like to maybe live closer in, but I have zero desire for a stupid expensive gas guzzler or a ginormous house. We could use maybe one more room past our current 2200 sf.

When we were househunting in another cheaper area, I still gravitated to the older ranch/ramblers or colonials even though we could have bought in an area with mcmansions.
