I'd like to maybe live closer in, but I have zero desire for a stupid expensive gas guzzler or a ginormous house. We could use maybe one more room past our current 2200 sf. When we were house hunting in another cheaper area, I still gravitated to the older ranch/ramblers or colonials even though we could have bought in an area with mcmansions.
Yeah, nothing, absolutely nothing you have said here follows any logical thought pattern at all. Why would you need a gas guzzler to live closer in? What does preferring ranches and ramblers over McMansions have to do with anything as many people dislike both? How are these minority opinions? Perhaps you should reread the question. Your comprehension and communication skills are very low.
The PP was saying (s)he would like to live closer-in (probably addressing the part about living in Bethesda), but would not want a gas guzzling SUV or McMansion. No one said anything about living closer in = driving a gas guzzler. I don't understand why people in big houses with big cars can't imagine that anyone else might value other things in life such as wanting to live in a smaller, more manageable home where your kids aren't two floors away from you. Some of us prefer public transit or a low gas milage sedan over an SUV. Personally, I am embarrassed by America's reputation for consuming so much gas and building such large homes compared to the rest of the world.
