While my kid is not coming back to TSJ next season it wasn't because of the coaches or the culture on the team. In fact, I would say one of the older GA teams our daugther played on was actually full of some of the nicest parents and players we have ever had. Did we win a national championship - no. But we are there for the experience and to play against better competition. Steel sharpens steel so to speak. So I guess people can make whatever they want out of what is said on this thread, but I would say if you are a RL-ECNL or GA2 player and want to have a shot at getting better you will need to play better competition. I don't see many players who have been playing at lower levels beyond the age of 14 really getting much of a shot at ECNL rosters in the area. I can speak from experience that it is possible to spring board up the ladder even if you have to endure situations that may not be perfect. Frankly I don't think anybody can say that there is a club that is perfect in all respects in NOVA, or probably nationally.

For the 2016s and 2017s there was frustration with communication all year, but like you said… Probably typical dysfunction and issues from across clubs. BUT on top of that: they created additional teams for this age group without informing parents (went from 1 team to 3…?), started moving our kids around and rostering them for teams that we didn’t know they were roster for, kids were registered for games back to back in locations 45 minutes away from each other (sometimes last minute), there was no sign of incoming kids for a pipeline, they made staffing changes without even taking a moment to explain why…

There was typical frustration all year, but trust just collapsed between Feb-April.

To this day, no one on the management side has taken the time to address what’s happening. Either they don’t know that 90% of the team is not re-signing, or they don’t care to discuss it.

This was totally preventable… All they had to do was talk honestly to parents. Instead, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Sounds similar to what happened last year to the GA teams. Management was slow to respond to concerns and was surprised when 90% of the players did not return. I guess they didn't learn anything from last year.

Where are the 2016/2017 players going? SYC?

Anonymous wrote:Wow… that’s quite a reply. Way to take it to a new level.

Bringing it back to the topic: TSJ management and why people are leaving… I’ll be specific.

Throughout the year there has been last minute planning, terrible communication, and an expectation that parents and players can be present for anything from club meetings to location changes to last min games with like hours notice. A couple of meetings have occurred, but they have been badly organized. A major meeting occurred in the stands of the TSJ and no one could hear them. Adam speaks the entire time and there’s very little useful information, just a regurgitation of what is in the marketing materials.

There has also been inconsistent availability and use of facilities and fields. One of the draws of the TSJ is the indoor facilities, but we are lucky if we use those 1/week. Then on top of that…

1. In the fall there was one 2016 team. It included a handful of 2017s. 2017s were supposed to play up a year and then drop to lead the new U9s/2017. The parents of the 2017s have been asking where the incoming 2017s are and if there will be a team. They were ignored and later dismissed as an unreasonable question.

2. In the beginning of the spring season a few girls were separated at practice with no explanation. It started seeming like they were creating a new team, but no one told us. Parents asked and were again ignored and dismissed. A couple weeks in several girls were rostered for two teams, in games 45+ min away from each other. There was no explanation why, and when parents started speaking up they finally told us that there would be not 2 but *three* 2016 teams (2 in Springfield and 1 in Loudon) and that our girls would need to help fill the gaps in the rosters. They walked this back when they realized it was untenable. Why they created teams without complete rosters is still unclear…

3. They suddenly made a bunch of staffing and coaching changes with no notice to parents. The 2016 coach would not be returning. We were told it was because his wife is having a baby, which is obviously horse shit. He loves the team, and wouldn’t have chosen to leave. Coaches change, and that’s OK… but how they change matters and says a lot about people.

4. We still have not met the new coach and really don’t know anything about him. We have been asking. When it became clear this was a problem, they scheduled a meeting to meet him (this coming Monday).

5. They sent us contracts / offers this past week, and expected us to sign them before meeting the new coach. We also haven’t had tryouts, so have no idea if they will even rosters for a 2016 or 2017 team. One of the parents asked if we could have more time, and they straight up ignored her. Still haven’t responded.

More broadly… it is super clear that the goals of the people running the club, and those of the coaches are totally different. For a bit the coaches were able to ignore the leadership bs and run the practices and team decisions as they saw fit. That has changed, and it seems the coaches no longer have as much of a say.

Put differently: Adam has a vision that the coaches did not agree with. He is now replacing the people who do not agree with him.

Bottom line: it’s been an absolutely terrible experience, and Adam has somehow managed to take at least a few teams from enthusiastic and connected to pissed off, disappointed, and leaving.

Maybe they figure it out in the next couple years, but most of us don’t want our kids to be collateral damage and miss critical developmental years.

This has been very helpful to me. I will not be considering TSJFC due to how they handled the 2016 girl's situation. I thought it was peculiar when you look at the registration list that jumped from 1 team to 3 teams mid-year and to find out that there were gaps in the roster; must have been infuriating for the poor parents and kids who had to experience that.

No one here is trying to hurt TSJ… just trying to warn other parents considering it.

Yup. they take everything so personally and try to shift blame to the parents. It’s easy to say parents are unreasonable, but so many have had the same experience over a couple of years… Maybe they should take a look in the mirror. Or maybe not because Adam will be hovering over their shoulder

They also forgot the little fact that parents pay the bills

They are cleaning house and working to create a friendly and supportive culture.

The toxic parents have mostly left
but some still remain. I hope they can change their ways and adapt to the new culture BC is trying to create.

BC and his team want to teach GREAT soccer. Not track. Not boot it ball.

They are offering extra programming that my friends in other clubs have to find private trainers for. Rigorous summer training schedule, strength training, conditioning, futsal, nutrition.

BC & other new coaches say they see soccer as training for life. I agree.

I’ve met new families and seen quality players. Of those I’ve met, which certainly isn’t everyone, new players have come from other local clubs. A few are new to the area.

GA Director is amazing, passionate, and seems very sincere. I hope he can bring his vision to life.

We have our fields, trainings and events locked for the summer. Not yet sure about the fall as is typical of most clubs. We are pretty sure we know where we will be but it needs to be confirmed. We do not have our own “home” and I don’t know when/if we will. I’m okay with that for the time being but maybe not forever. For now it’s fine for us.

Club is going through a period of change. I am ok with that because I see a lot of great seeds being planted.

Wow. This is the very first post in the thread written only 10 months ago. One of the worse takes of all time. I feel bad this new parent had to find out the hard way. But it does show that there is a constant supply of unsuspecting parents who will listen and believe promises.

Kind of sad to read that now. I too stayed and was full of hope. They have made it very hard to maintain hope this year. Very hard. I don't know anyone on our team that stayed for the rebuilding with us that is planning on staying. It's really sad because I do honestly believe it would take very little to fix the things that are broken. There ARE some great coaches and Kristin being in charge of GA is a fantastic asset. But, unfortunately they keep losing more and more good people and treat the people who have been loyal like crap. I really want them to be successful. And I do believe a lot of the issues are found other places too.

They're looking into getting Kristin out of her 2 year agreement early with FCV and into VRSC.

We are leaving but K is awesome and she is the only reason we’d ever stay. Can only imagine the steaming pile of lies she was sold on from AB as she upended her life to move here for this job. I am not a VRSC fan but I do hope she can get out of this sinking burning contaminated ship.

Yes that's the one! Same academy that runs more than 30 academies worldwide, has over 45,000 kids registered, runs over 180 camps worldwide, is present on all 5 continents, produces world class talent, but somehow "ran out of money."

All while your kid plays in some 3rd rate club that produces no talent, and eats your paycheck every month, chump!

Exactly. It was benefits from "chumps" seeing the name Barcelona and paying for the "honor" have their kid part of something that is the same as every other club around except they are paying more for kits because the real Barcelona has to get their money from licensing fees.

Where are the 2016/2017 players going? SYC?

They seem to be scattering all over. The current 2016 coach who they aren't bringing back is a really great guy and improved the girls so much over the course of the fall season. We were making a burdensome trek to practices just because we saw our daughter's development and felt it was worth it. I'm under the impression several parents were in the same boat, willing to travel for a good coach/experience. Now that the coach won't be returning and the spring season has been a miserable experience with the 3 teams, it seems people are looking at programs closer to home. Looks like only 4-5 families on the South/Blue teams are staying, the rest of us are going to several different clubs.

Idk why they haven't made him TD and gotten rid of AB. AB is going to completely sink the northern part of the club and they seem to be just letting it happen for some unknown reason.

Where ever they can find some space. Empty school fields, parking lots, highway medians.
