RTO is a myth/joke

How do I know? Because I see hundreds of parents (many of whom I know are federal employees) every day picking their kids up from camp at 2:30 in the afternoon (after 9 am drop offs).

Then attending Friday camp shows every Friday from 2- 3 pm.

So unless they’re taking tons of leave, I’m pretty sure all these people haven’t RTO’d.

Yes so many “complaints” on DCUM and elsewhere about RTO. Doesn’t add up.

Meanwhile, opm issues guidance basically directing agencies to let employees TW if they have to pray that day.

It’s a joke.

Or maybe you are?

Maybe they’re all political appointees (or their schedule C staff)?

I don't have a job where I can work from home and DH has been work from home long before Covid so I have no side in this fight. But really? You see not only hundreds of parents at camp but you know hundreds of them are feds who are supposed to be in the office? I don't disagree that the policy gets ignored or abused (it's been an issue at my brother's non fed company) but if you want to make a point or have a valid discussion, you can't start with gross exaggerations.

A lot of people are using their use it or loose it time this summer. Banking leave is over.

That’s what parents have done for decades. Take leave for their kids.

You’re a looney toon.

You know hundreds of Federal employees? Where do you live? And you are there making note of who dropped off and picked up? My spouse and I are both Feds, and we take turns who is dropping off and picking up on alternate dates -- today I drop off, they pickup; tomorrow they drop off, I pick up. Do you really think you are tracking "hundreds" of couples and clearly sure who dropped off on a given day?

On top of that, yeah some weeks I am just taking leave. Now that we have the threat of RIF hanging over our thread, we are no longer taking vacations (so hit to the economy) and just doing staycation and making the pickup and drop schedule easier some weeks.

I mean, they are tracking our CAC/PIV swipes, do you really think this won't be found out?

I'm a fed and no one is teleworking. NO ONE. Contractors are still teleworking nonstop though.

Several people do work 6-2:30, as the parking lot is pretty full by 6am.

I take every Friday off in the summer. DH and I trade who picks up and drops off, so he does drop off at 9 and I pick up at 3:30.

If you are there for pickup and dropoff - do you even work?

A lot of feds have alternative schedules with one or both Fridays off per pay period (and I know several who have “opted” to go part time)

Basically you should just eff off with your complaining about people taking care of their kids.

Man you're a miserable person.

No one teleworks at my entire agency unless it's some sort of medical emergency. Very rare.

Rto isn’t sustainable, it’s the past.

+1. I’m burning leave because I’m planning to resign anyway, and would rather have the time than cash it out.

How do you know they are Feds? Lots of non-Feds still have remote/hybrid or flexible scheduling. While this area has a lot of govt employees, the majority still do not work for the govt. And even among Feds there are a few who do have TW a few days a week. My SIL can TW 2 days. There are also Feds who are taking leave as others have mentioned. Then there are PT working parents, SAHPs and even parents who are self-employed. When my kids were camp age, I wasn’t working so I did drop offs and pick ups. Don’t assume.

Idiot, OP. How do you know they aren't taking leave a couple hours a day to get through the summer?
