RTO is a myth/joke

While this area has a lot of govt employees, the majority still do not work for the govt. And even among Feds there are a few who do have TW a few days a week. My SIL can TW 2 days. There are also Feds who are taking leave as others have mentioned. Then there are PT working parents, SAHPs and even parents who are self-employed. When my kids were camp age, I wasn’t working so I did drop offs and pick ups. Don’t assume.

+1 Do they have a scarlet letter F tattooed on their chest OP? Even if some of them are Feds, there are plenty of office workers who have flexible hours where work can be conducted at off-hours, as long as the work outputs are finished in a timely fashion.

I live in Langley Virginia, and about 50% of the people in my neighborhood are Fed. Many of them are political appointees.

Ok, political appointees don’t have to TRO. That is very on brand. But run of the mill Feds aren’t living in LANGLEY with kids in camp, it’s WAY to expensive

+1. The only ones allowed to telework regularly are political appointees. Everyone else is SOL.

RTO as a fed has meant that I take a lot more leave than I did before. If I have an appointment, I just take leave for the entire day now, instead of hauling myself across the county and going into the office.

Many of my coworkers with kids are just using their leave every afternoon.

No one is working overtime like we used to, and no longer working on weekends.

I'm just taking a very short vacation (it's not like we can afford a long one) and using my leave on a regular basis.

And, as another pp pointed out, there is no need for me to save my leave anymore if I could get fired at any moment. Or resign at any moment. The "stable job" part of federal employment is gone and most of us are acting like it.

Huh if you can get fired or resign at any moment YMMV but I’d rather do that while cashing out 40k in vacation time on the way out rather - there will be plenty of time after that to get your hair done or go shopping.

But yeah OP people are out and about a ton because they are burning leave left and right. I’ve had coworkers take full days off for errands like hair cuts and car servicing bc they simply didn’t want to come in.

+2. Are there summer camps that are only for Fed workers? How does the OP have such skills to figure out the employment of every parent?

It's YOLO time, PP. I feel like the future is so uncertain. I'm not going to miss out on time with my kids now.

If you’re OP then you’re a double idiot. Political are not held to the same standards as actual employees.

Meh I had over 240 hours saved and it was "only" 17k. I'm a GS 14, so maybe others have more, but I'm sure it's not 40k getting paid out.

There is your proof that people don’t work more in the office.

Op is a miserable troll. Seriously, rot in hell.

Then attending Friday camp shows every Friday from 2- 3 pm.

So unless they’re taking tons of leave, I’m pretty sure all these people haven’t RTO’d.

Yes so many “complaints” on DCUM and elsewhere about RTO. Doesn’t add up.

Meanwhile, opm issues guidance basically directing agencies to let employees TW if they have to pray that day.

It’s a joke.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever read on DCUM. Which is saying a lot.

PP is talking about childcare concerns not haircuts.

I don’t believe you. Maybe on car serving because what are they going to do, blow $100 on renting a car for a day to go to work?

And hiring a nanny or extended day to allow you to work the full day will likely cost as much as your leave is worth after tax

Camps and childcare costs have exploded

And yet you were there with them. Nearly 22,000 people were fired in the DMV since January. Maybe they have time to focus on family. Also, there is a thing called PTO. More importantly, MYOB!
