Totally lighthearted question, and will not drive my style choices, but I’m curious: if you find long hair attractive, is it the longer the better? Or is it kind of equally attractive once it’s past the shoulders (or some other mark)?
Asking because I’ve seen more and more women lately with hair almost to their waists, which is so hard to care for. There’s a point after which it doesn’t change how it frames your face… but is is still sexier than, say, 3 or 4 inches past the shoulders? |
A lot of the women with hair that long are wearing wigs. |
DH here: while there are no doubt some unique exceptions where people have particularly striking looks, I think most men would define “long” as longer-than-shoulder-length and once you are past that point it’s all basically the same. The waist-long thing seems like way more trouble than it is worth unless you are rocking some pretty unusual vibe. |
Are you under the impression that women style their hair primarily to impress men?
And yeah, those are wigs/extensions and are often indeed worn by women who are trying to impress men, who usually can't tell it's fake. |
Men are so easy to bamboozle. |
Yes we are easy because we love women (the straight ones among us). Just being a woman is enough. |
or extensions. |
Hair to the waist is a turn off, though if matched with the whole hippie vibe that can be a certain goal |
I think it depends on the man and also the woman hes with.
I've had long hair for almost all my life. My favourite length is waist length, but it's generally between BSL (bra strap) and waist length. I recently did a big chop (collarbone ish) in dec and while it's grown out a bit longer now, I recently asked my husband and he said he liked my longer hair better. BUT I think that he's more used to me with quite long hair. I'm not sure if men who are not used to women with as long of hair feel the same preference. FWIW I've never worn a wig, nor do any of my other long hair friends. I know they are becoming more common, but I definitely wouldn't say most women with long hair are wearing fake hair. |
This length of hair is fine

This is just a random pic from google, but this is basically what my long hair looked like. |

I only care about your butt. If its plump and round that's it. |
Wigs and extensions are rare, at least for Caucasian and Asian populations. They cost money, wigs are hot and itchy, and the extensions can only be supported by a certain hair type.
All the men I know who have expressed an opinion on hair prefer it long. My husband, ex-boyfriend, and random husbands of friends. They all want long hair. They're all Caucasian or Asian. There's a length beyond which you cannot have healthy hair, and that length varies by individual. Mine is slightly above my waist. Any lower and it's too wispy. My daughter has had long hair her entire life, and maybe that helps, because her hair can go knee length and still look nice: she does all sorts of fun looks with braids. |
I think most men have a primal, reptilian instinct toward all things feminine. And long hair is a part of that, almost as much as curves. But excess is excess. Whether it's hair to the butt or triple F breasts. And an attractive woman with a compelling face and short hair is still going to turn heads. I just listened to the Smartless podcast with Charlize Theron. Shaved head in Mad Max. Still hot. |
