I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for the last month and eating low carb and higher fat and protein. Every night, I eat dinner and don’t feel hungry again until at least 9am the next day. Two thumbs up.
Tonight I got stuck in major traffic and didn’t get to stop at the store. I made spaghetti because I was out of food. An hour later, I’m hungry again. If I’m still hungry in another hour, I guess I’ll eat more spaghetti. Anyone else experienced this hunger after eating lots of carbs? |
You need fat for saeity--to feel full enough and satisfied. |
Not me, OP. Carbs (specifically grains) fill me up. When I eat only protein and vegetables, I’m hungry in an hour. We are all different. |
If I eat spaghetti it’s usually a high fiber high protein brand and I use meat sauce, and I’ll have it with a salad (more fiber!) and dressing (olive oil healthy fat) so yeah I can see why a plate of just pasta and sauce would make you hungry soon. But adding protein fat and fiber will help balance.

I did that (minus the salad since I didn’t have time to stop at the store). Heavy in the meat sauce but I was still really hungry last night. It was high protein pasta too. |
Depends on a few things: if carb is whole grain, unprocessed, it will fill you up for longer bc takes longer to digest. Whole wheat spaghetti, for instance.
If all you have is white pasta, try preparing it, then freezing it or refrigerating overnight. Then warm it up again. This lowers the glycemic index. |
Just because you feel a hunger land it doesn’t mean you need to eat. You won’t starve. I would just go to bed at that point. |
Depends on your life style, teacher or nurse on your feet, fine.

Welcome to 2002, OP!
What if it's all been a big fat lie? https://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/07/magazine/what-if-it-s-all-been-a-big-fat-lie.html |
Yep, I dont find that ANYTHING fills me up for very long so I eat a lot. My weight is always the same as long as I stay active and make reasonable food choices. |
Of course. Common knowledge. Is why the joke about being hungry again real soon after eating typical Americanized Chinese food happens, because it is FULL of sugar. |
OP here. I actually am a teacher and used to be able to eat anything and stay thin. Then my late 40s came along. Sigh. I guess I needed to make a huge change to my diet to see just how much carbs cause me to be hungrier. |
Not me, if I don’t eat carbs I don’t feel satisfied. |
Not me, meals without carbs don’t last long for me at all, but the meal can’t be just carbs—needs to be paired with some combination of protein, fat, and fiber.
I never really feel hungry after dinner regardless of what I eat though. |
Another Not Me +1
Fiber is filling to me. You can eat a large quantity of healthful carbs, with relatively low calories, but a high fullness-level. |
