| Some did well in group stage, but it looks like every single local (?) team that when to Utah for u8-12 got crushed. Worth the investment? |
| Will probably be the highlight of their soccer careers so maybe? |

SYC 2014 went undefeated in their group and a DC-based player guested for a squad that got out of their group. Many of the kids are the best in the DMV in the 2014-15 age group.
The families I know earn over $750k a year so a trip to Utah is a family memory and a drop in the bucket. FYI, I am not in Utah and my kid competes against these kids. I really don’t like the SYC methodology. But what I really despise more than that is people who hate on how people spend their money and their family choices. Be more productive with your life and you will have money to blow on youth tournaments instead of judging wins and losses from 7-11 year olds. |
| Yeah I don’t get the whole “worth the investment” question. What exactly do you think these parents are investing. It’s a trip like any other vacation you choose to go on with some soccer for your kid. No one was forced to go they all wanted to go. I also doubt anyone thought of it as an investment. |
"Worth the investment" comes in later down the road when you've already done 2 maybe 3 big travel tournamants. At first its all fun but after a while it tends to grind and you start asking yourself why are we flying across the country to play the same type of teams you could be playing locally. Sometimes the level of competition justifies the travel but then you start thinking to yourself, are we going to need to travel every time we want to play better teams? The answer is yes. Welcome to high level soccer. |
| If you think this trip is worth more if the team wins, you don’t get how this all works. |
| Well when most of the top players stayed home, no its not worth the investment to watch your teams get crushed |
SYC 2014 1-1-1 is undefeated? You know the scores are posted online, right? |
| 1-2-1 even |
| It's funny from my North Atlantic bias. Old Line has been one of the top teams for several years in 2013G. They basically only played tournaments this spring and I guess this is their last hurrah as a team before they splinter off for ECNL/GA. They lost 1-0 in the semis to Futbol Academy in name only. It's one thing to "have a few guests", but it's a North NJ all-star team and basically no one from the original team LOL. |
Wrong about SYC and this is a forum for discussing youth soccer. Not a prior poster and completely valid to question flying such young kids over the country. |

There are two genders last time I checked: https://system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/37948/schedules?team=2801902 |
I am not a SYC parent but last I checked, going 3-0 in your group satisfies the DCUM investment criteria for winning. I don’t even believe in their philosophy just disputing the original premise that everybody was wiped out. https://system.gotsport.com/org_event/events/37948/schedules?team=2801902 If you don’t have the money, don’t go. You actually don’t know anything about development because you are supporting an “investment is only worth it to win” argument. Variability and versatility are two of the most important traits missing from US soccer. The kids WHO ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH to have the experience of playing in a different environment are much better off than kids who are back home with playing video games with their parents being keyboard warrior-haters on DCUM. Ideally, IF you have a top player, they should have experience in NJ, SoFlo, TX, SoCal as well as Europe. This keeps them humble and aware of the landscape. |
Either you've never checked or it's been years. Gender is a social construct. There are 72 genders. There are 2 sexes. Don't argue. You are wrong. Accept it. I doubt you will because nobody here can be wrong but what you are factually wrong. Carry on. |
