Virginia LG - Democrats

It seemed like Stoney was the front runner, but there’s been a lot of people coming out against him for pushing a casino in Richmond, and he hasn’t picked up as many endorsements as I would have expected. Hashmi seems to be the next front runner, but does she have the experience and could she make a good run for Governor herself in the 2029 elections if she and Spanberger won? Who is everyone planning to vote for at this point? There are other candidates too, but it seems like those two are the highest profile.

I'm voting for Stoney. He seems pragmatic and reasonable and his policies more or less align with mine.

Hashmi has an impressive ad blitz going right now.

Richmond resident here. For God's sakes please do not vote for Stoney. His leadership in RVA was a disaster. He pushed his casino plan twice - and both times voters soundly rejected it. Guess who has been funding his political coffers?

He ignored Richmond's infrastructure to the point that our water system failed for a week in January. In fact, he failed to spend infrastructure dollars provided by the Biden administration to perform required maintenance on the water system, and ignored a critical EPA report for several years.

Richmond is doing reasonably well despite, not because, of Stoney. He's basically a 21st century Marion Barry.

Victor Salgado. He's a very accomplished former DOJ lawyer (from the Public Integrity section). I think having a lawyer in that position will be very useful right now, especially if Miyares hangs on the AG's Office.

What about Lateef? He wants to do away with the vehicle property tax!

Also “no” on the casino in Tyson’s. But I’ve seen zero ads.

Lateef is a sleazy politician and you cannot trust anything he campaign on. He has been very supportive of putting more data centers in PWC even though most county residents don’t want more of them. He is now taking donations from Dominion energy, so don’t trust him to stand up to big tech or the utility companies. He also doesn’t care about actually doing his job as an elected representative, everything is a stepping stone to him. He filed the paperwork to run for lieutenant governor in December 2023, which was immediately after he was elected to his school board position in November 2023. Clearly he was planning on running for lieutenant governor while he was running for his school board position. He doesn’t care about PWC county schools and don’t expect him to care about protecting Virginia residents either.

Oh, the data centers are very unpopular, I’m surprised. But how is he a sleazy politician if he’s never been a politician at all? Like you said he’s only been on the School Board. Lots of elected officials use these positions as stepping stones so I won’t hold that against him.

I would rather have data centers in NoVa than a casino.

I voted for Hashmi.

Lateef - maybe he will get the state to fund education properly and he also is against the casino.

Stoney will bring down the whole ticket.

He literally filed the paperwork to run for lieutenant governor in 2023, a month after he got elected. This is a 4 year position and he had no plans to actually take this job seriously. He was already preparing for his next campaign before he finished running for reelection at the school board position. He also used his position on the school board to encourage developers to donate to his political campaigns. The school system (at his behest) gives special treatment to his friends and donors. Anytime his developer friends want to build something they get special treatment and the school system makes statements say they are fine with the proposed development. The school system does not encourage the his developers friends and donors to provide any money to offset the impact on schools. However, other developers are treated differently and the school board will make statements opposing their project proposals or requesting substantial monetary contributions.

Pete Buttigieg endorsed Stoney and, while I know more than that, that's really all I need to know.

I’m voting for Hashmi.
