Tim Walz Tells Democrats to 'Bully the S***' Out of Donald Trump

Walz, who was Harris' vice presidential running mate and a former public school teacher, spoke at Representative Jim Clyburn of South Carolina's Friday night fish fry and delivered a serious message to those in attendance, including many of his Democratic colleagues.

Walz spoke of "wannabe dictators and despots" and slammed Trump for "corruption" and "cruelty" in his second administration. He told those gathered that the Democratic Party needs to "change the attitude, compete in every district, compete for every school board seat."

"Maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, maybe it's time for us to be a little more fierce because we have to ferociously push back on this," he said, to applause from the crowd.

"And again, I'll speak to my teacher colleagues in here. The thing that bothers a teacher more than anything is to watch a bully...and when it's a child you talk to him and you tell him why bullying's wrong, but when it's an adult like Donald Trump you bully the s*** out of him back," Walz said. "You push back, you make sure they know it's not there, because at heart—at heart, this is a weak, cruel man that takes it out and punches down on people."

I don’t think bullying Trump would work. He is the bully.

Wouldn’t democratic candidates want to present as a sane alternative to bullying?

I work with teachers. Teachers don’t instruct their students to bully bullies back. Principals don’t tell students to bully bullies back.

What works is mocking Trump. He can't tolerate the injury to his ego.

Glad someone is saying it, but bullying Trump isn't necessary. Simply standing up to him would suffice.

Nice guys finish last. Stop being a doormat. Time to fight fire with fire.

Mocking Trump just like he mocks everyone else is key, plus bullying him when you want. It's probably why he "respects" Putin and other dictators.

I'm from a family of narcissists, giving back as good as you get is the best way if you are not a kid.

Democrats should listen to Tim.

I agree OP. This is why I could not vote for Walz/Harris. I mean, one bad ticket does not mean the other choice is better. Both candidates sucked! Vance and Trump do and so did the other team.

You simply cannot say that one is better than the other. In real life, a D and a F are both grades you don't want to get and it doesn't matter if you got the D. The point isn't to be satisfied or happy you got the D and not the F. You need to reject and disallow that entirely and work harder to get an acceptable outcome.

That Walz would suggest being a bully and getting mean is the right way to diminish Trump makes him just as bad if not worse because he should know better, seeing what the results Trump the bully has achieved. This is not about who is "successful" as much as about setting the path that will accomplish success

You have to do it in a way that makes Fox News or you need journalists to pose questions (TACO). I think that his handlers keep him pretty isolated otherwise.

Need to keep up with the TACO stuff. He can't win on the TACO theme because if he doesn't chicken out, he tanks the economy with tariffs and everyone hates him (note spike in disapproval when tariffs were in effect), and when it's pointed out that he did chicken out, he looks like a inept coward to his own base. It's brilliant.

Laughing at the Fox News Fools commentary.

Really weird thing for Walz to say.

Bullies crumble when someone stands up to them. Appeasement really doesn’t work. And when the bullies lack empathy, appealing to a quality that is lacking isn’t going to work.

PP @ 10:26 — I work with teachers and principals and kids and families in some very rough areas. It’s not “bullying” when it’s self-defense.

He made the very distinction you are making. You wouldn't say this to a child but trump is an adult.

I have always been an "when they go low, we go higher person" but this has gone too far. I agree with Walz. It's way past time to push back.

People keep insisting that mocking Trump hurts his ego.

Do you see a man with a hurt ego?

Seriously, he just won the presidency after being left for dead by everyone in the world.

How is his ego “hurt?”

No. What you can do is manipulate and change perception. Be smarter than Trump and don't bully and act like him. Don't we all agree his ways are gross?
You can outsmart him. That's not the same as bullying! The Canadian PM gets it. You don't fight fire with fire. Trump is so stupid that if you fight him on par with him you're basically just as stupid if not more of an idiot!

You fight a bully with no real power or intelligence by out strategizing them, being totally different from them and going over his head in the sense that you're outsmarting him and bypassing him. That's how you do it better and win.

Anyone who's afraid of Trump or thinks he's powerful is dumb as a rock. Trump is weak, so easy to manipulate and a complete idiot. He has no fire at all. My 15 yr old could outthink him.

…and if you back down to a weak bully, NO ONE respects you. The law firms, for example. They are perfectly able to fight but chose not to. Why would anyone ever pay them to fight?
