Not true. If it were really this way, why does Tulane have so very many matriculants from Sidwell while having none from Rutgers? There is almost a 20 point ranking difference between the two, with Tulane now falling outside of the "t50".

A lot also depends on the age of the person. Older people aren't impressed by state schools, unless it is UVA, Berkley or Michigan. People in their 50's probably add Texas, UCLA and UNC to the list.

Regionally, a lot of state schools have a lot of prestige.

T50 has a bunch of 2n tier UCs and mediocre public schools.

T60 minus most of the public schools would work.

All schools are prestigious in their own right. Only stuck up bottom feeders care. I find equal value in Longwood and Yale.

Nope. H2P. And I didn't go there either. Things are different now. Now it is big deal, if you are in Ohio, to go to Ohio State. Same goes for Penn State if you are a PA resident and VA Tech if you are from VA.

Georgetown is also outside T20, but deemed prestigious by many if not most.

Most prestigious:
Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Penn, Princeton

Less prestigious:
Yale, Columbia, Hopkins, Chicago, Northwestern

Afterwards:
No prestige

For the life of me I will never understand the psychology of someone who wants a definitive list of what is prestigious or impressive and what is not. I mean, it is such a nuanced thing that depends on metrics you're evaluating on, who the person judging is, etc...

Why would you even ask this question?

Are you trying to get someone to confirm for you that ivies and MIT are the only super special schools?
