Rate My Soccer Club

Anonymous
Hi everyone — long time lurker on this site.

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while… so my husband and I finally built it as a side project:

https://ratemysoccerclub.com

(TL;DR: It's Yelp for youth soccer clubs.)

Like many of you, we pour a lot of time and money into our kids and this sport. We built RateMySoccerClub to be a place where parents and players can share honest, anonymous feedback about their clubs and coaches.

Your reviews help other families, bring more transparency and accountability to club soccer, and help create a better experience for players, families, coaches, and clubs.

The site is just ~30 days old and already has ~300 reviews for clubs and coaches all over the US. Weirdly we don't have any reviews for DC-area clubs yet:

https://ratemysoccerclub.com/country/united-states/state/dc

I'd love to hear your ideas and feedback -- and I'm sure that we're missing lots of local clubs.

And please leave a review or two if you haven't already!

So you built a dcum

I had noticed before that many clubs seemed to have somehow disabled google reviews for their business.

Majority of the people here don't know soccer well enough to give objective reviews on the soccer aspect

It will all be reviews on the politics

Love the intent, how would ensure it’s not just going to be a lot of griping.

I feel the site should have some large disclaimer telling people to verify what’s is shared in the clubs. Or some parameters

Good idea. But just like DCUM, you’ll probably end up with parents from club A go in and intentionally leave terrible ratings and comments about clubs B-Z.

OP's co-founder / husband / software dev here.

These are great points / ideas.

There is definitely a fair amount of griping but most of the reviews are actually neutral to positive.

The reality (at least from my experience) is that club soccer is a poor product in many cases, so lots of buyers are justifiably unhappy.

Planning to write a simple feature that'll require more text based on the rating -- e.g. can't rate 1 star or 5 star unless you write 25 words. I think that this will cut down on low effort reviews.

Also planning to build a "verified club" feature that'll enable clubs to respond to reviews (publicly or privately) and have access to more engagement / transparency functionality.

The site is brand new and I have a very long to-do list!

Why? What's the point?

Looks like Bethesda SC is getting some attention now!

OP here.

1) It's a public service that absolutely needs to exist in the world. Families sink lots of time and $$ into youth / club soccer and there is very little accountability or transparency from the clubs.

2) I *think* that there might be a small business here selling functionality / data / access to larger clubs -- reply to reviews, premium profiles, data services, etc. Still a ways to go on this...

Unfortunately the LS/NVA crew ruin every well intended idea and discourse on here. Find a way to keep them out or else they’ll troll the hell out of it.

So you're trying to make a buck while calling out clubs for trying to make a buck
