| Is it time for there to be a gap between Williams and all other LACs: most notable alumni, most successful in finance/art/math/physics/geology/English/pre-med/government, highly visible in academia AND top companies. The academics are a whole other level with no other college having tutorials. Even Oxford recognizes Williams as a top institution! It seems closer to a Harvard than a playtime palace college like Pomona. |

Oooh, another PAWS thread.
Save it. They’re all the same. |
|
Yes.
But it’s still a LAC, unfortunately. |
| Troll alert! |
| Honestly, all of those tiny SLACs blur into one. |
| it's the BEST ONE for sure for sure |
|
Lol... Williams was NEVER on the level of a truly elite university, and the value/general lay prestige of LACs has only decreased over time.
And if we're comparing it with its peer group, Amherst seems to be more well-known. |
+1, sort of on the same level as a school like Butler. |
|
Oh, OP, you made me snoke my champagne with this! The shamelessness with which you hunt not only prestige but public recognition for it is absolute gold! (And I happen to like prestige.)
The post might, however, be useful as a public service announcement. A lot of very excellent students can a now avoid Williams like the plague if you are representative of the students/alumni. |
Curiously nasty response. - NP with no dog in this fight. |
| What famous people have gone to Williams? I can think of a senator and a CNN anchor, and that’s about it. And neither of them are _that_ famous, all things considered. |
| I went to Williams in the 90s. There are a ton of of famous alums, just google it. And there were celebrities in my class, though I didn’t even realize who they were at the time. Academics were strong, coming as a top student from a W school here I was average at best at Williams. Not prepared for the level or amount of work. Was a county science award winner here yet weeded out of pre med quickly at Williams. Frankly also not prepared for the drinking and parties. Lots of boarding school kids who really knew how to party. I was a bit too sheltered here. |
| Go Ephs! Happy Williams but there are lots of other great places out there. It’s not for everyone. My kid was turned off by the location. |
| Happy Williams alum- above poster |
Finally. Someone said it. I can’t believe we have yet to chisel Williams’s prestige in granite in font large enough to read with the naked eye from the international space station. I mean SURELY this is an unassailable fact that literally everyone cares deeply about. |
