In 6 months or 2 years, when something bad happens and we wonder why no one was paying attention, we'll say, oh yeah, agency XYX used to do that but Elon Musk fired all of them in 2025. Sorry.

I bet your partner was working before January 20. My DH works at FDA, has survived the cuts so far but his productivity is down the drain (even though he was forced to go back to the office 5 days a week). He cannot communicate with the outside (and his work requires him yo do so), had to spend time scrubbing documents of references to things the new administration does not like, people he was working with cut with no replacement, work his department was doing before with no issues (under Obama, Trump 1 and Biden) suddenly must be approved by political appointee parachuted from magaland who knows nothing, so nothing gets done because nobody knows what can be done and how. They even had to endure the visit and speech of RFK telling the employees that they are the deep state. The hope is that the current commissioner, as a non total idiot, will manage to bring the FDA to a working condition. But the people who were fired need to be brought back because their work was necessary

Congress should called all the DOGE leadership in front of an oversight committee meeting BEFORE Musk departs and demand a full accounting of all programs cut, halted, total of all persons fired, and a full total of supposed savings, plus full accounting of all cost for their new team and all legal cost associated with defending, revising and correcting.

Then we’ll see where we really are.
