Why do you have to use the office fridge for food you’ll eat today?

It doesn’t go bad in a few hours. Whether you packed it in the morning or had it in your fridge overnight, it’s fine.

I agree, I don't use the fridge. I have an insulated lunch bag.
I think the fridge is mostly for people who keep milk, cream cheese, and leftovers.

I keep a small dorm-room type fridge in my office. To avoid the office grumps that question my fridge habits.

Deli meat will definitely be gross if not kept cool at least with an ice pack.

I don’t use the office fridge. Yuck. If it really needs to stay cold, I have plenty of freezer packs.

Some food won't keep if left out for hours. If you want to eat a sandwich with mayo that's been left out for 3+ hours, have at it. I'll put mine in the fridge.

I usually pack a salad with leftover chicken or some smoked salmon. Sure it will be fine in a cooler bag with an ice pack, but the veggies will taste a lot better if they are cold and crisp.

Why do you care? What do you want to keep in there that you can’t?

That's what the office fridge is for. Why shouldn't I use it?

Exactly. why let food come to room temp when it's there and available.

I only use the office fridge for food I’ll eat in 3 days. I bring all my lunches in 3 days early. That way they’re cold and semi-fresh and I sneak under the radar of the work fridge police who tsk tsk the storage of foods to be eaten that same day.

On a more serious note, I have never read such an inane take. Some foods can go bad in a few hours and need to be kept cold. Not everyone wants to lug ice packs during their commute. Fridge is perfect cool place to store until lunch. Why would anyone care that people put lunches in the fridge?

No food is going to actually go bad in a climate controlled office over 4-5 hours. I assume nobody is bringing raw chicken for lunch. if you are that is a whole different conversation.

OTOH some people may just prefer as a taste matter to have their stuff chilled. that’s understandable.

I don't want to eat a room temperature salad! And I like my water very cold.

If I have zero interest in eating a tuna sandwich that has sat out for my hour commute and 3-4 hours before I eat lunch.

The things people complain about 🤯

Or better yet don't put mayo on that sandwich in the first place.

+2 exactly. Also adding I am that person that tosses old items that are past date or molding in the back.
