Coffee and scone = $13

Anonymous
I’m full time RTO downtown now and just ducked out for a coffee break. $13 for a scone and coffee wtf! The scone was delicious but I definitely will not be doing this again. So much for RTO helping downtown business. As far as I can tell, only WMATA is getting more money due to RTO … and ironically that money comes from the feds.

I work downtown, would be nice to have worked from home with my tea and my cat, but fortunately I have a real job, so Ive been downtown every day the past 5 years. Less morons taking up the crosswalks during pandemic

The price of take out food started going up during Covid and has remained high. Ditto the cost of eating out at a restaurant. It’s not ever going to come down. The only thing that can change is that salaries go up but that seems doubtful in the current environment.

I paid $4.50 for a small drip coffee with almond milk in N. Bethesda/Rockville. It's not just downtown.

It's home brewed coffee and an open window for fresh air if you must be a jerk about it. Which is delightful in the spring, what with the gentle breezes and birds chirping outside my window. Oh and don't forget the fragrant waft of spring blossoms currently flowing through my open window.

While I like cats, and tolerate dogs. I don't own either, and besides, the presence of either would harsh my Friday Zen.

So pardon me as I prepared to slide effortlessly into my weekend.

If the basis of the RTO mandate is to get me to spend money downtown. I will be bringing my own lunch and espresso. Unless it's like a group outing. Definitely no tipping.

Let the rich managers pay for their own service.

Even before that the quality of service was so poor. Plastic forks, paper plates etc. I've had better service at food trucks. Ah I know, I'm supposed to take it back to my desk so I can work to afford the overpriced meal.

The price of coffee will become significantly more expensive. Outside of Hawaii, we can't grow coffee. Republicans have chosen to tariff coffee so in a few weeks a $13 coffee and scone will be seen as a bargain.

It's not even just DC.
I rarely buy cereal, just oatmeal which I get at a natural foods store, but happened to check the cereal aisle at the store yesterday. Large box of cheerios was $9 (eggs are still 7.99 as well, but don't use many and still have eggs given by someone who has chickens. I've priced at Costco but not seeing anything that persuades me to buy yet).

Gas has gone up 38 cents/gal since 2 weeks ago.

Get a Keurig for your office and buy your scones from Trader Joe’s. Problem solved.

No one is forcing you to pay DC takeout prices.

This reminds me when I would ride an office elevator at 8 AM visibly pregnant— with a toddler at home.
Then my 20 year old staffer would say “I am so tired!” in response to Good Morning “how are you?”

I have a 50lb bag in my home office. Like 3.50 a pound.

It makes me look bad that I won’t buy a $9 scone?
