I am just darn proud of myself. How did I do it?
1. Got my hypothyroidism diagnosed and treated. Without this, none of the loss was possible. I dieted and exercised for a decade and kept packing on weight, very slowly, but still adding instead of losing. 2. Just did calorie deficit and exercise, like I had been doing the previous decade. Sigh |
Congrats! That is great! |
Who did you go for the diagnosis? What kind of test? |
And congrats! |
Way to go OP! |
Endocrinologist. They tested everything under the sun. My TSH was finally medically too high, after years of being too high but “borderline” so no one medicated it before. Now it’s 1.95 and I can actually lose weight. |
How old are you? |
Late forties but in full menopause because I had a hysterectomy with ovaries removed. |
Congrats OP! |
Which endocrinologist did you go to? |
Congrats. I'm sure I can google it but can you explain why someone can't lose weight by caloric deficit alone? Everything I read says...if you are in a caloric deficit, you'll lose weight, but apparently that's not true. Can you explain this is your own words? Thank you! |
What did you treat the hypothyroidism with? |
I'm 63 and I recently lost 15 lbs by caloric deficit alone. I'm now at the lower end of "normal" for my height. I'm not on Ozempic, but isn't Ozempic all about caloric deficit? So I think you can probably lose weight via caloric deficit. The real issue is whether you can sustain your new weight--so far I've sustained the loss after 8 months that included two overseas trips, but we shall see. |
Levothroxyzine (sp?). Nothing complicated. Just basic meds most thyroid patients are on. |
I don’t know, I’m not a scientist. I just know my ability to count calories didn’t magically change so if I was “counting wrong” like people accuse us of, I wouldn’t be able to lose weight now. |
