| My player accepted an offer a couple of weeks ago for the 2025-2026 year with team 1. We paid the deposit. We now have a later-arriving offer from team 2 which may be a better fit. Besides losing our deposit, are there any prohibitions against withdrawing an acceptance months before the beginning of the 2025-2026 competition year? |
it might not be considered a deposit - did you read the fine print? most clubs view it as a whole year commitment and it's an installment plan paid over the course of the year, but you're on the hook for the whole thing. |
| If you accepted the offer - most clubs send the offer out, you accept and it shows you are accepting and starting a "contract" for the year. To get out - depending on the state association - you might have to get the club to grant you a release. They "own" the rights to the player for a year until they are released. |
There was no associated agreement linked to the acceptance nor anything on the club webpage either. As a contractual matter, I think we are ok. The question relates more to the leagues themselves - that they would somehow prohibit this early withdrawal even before rosters/player cards are submitted. |
They’re not on the hook for anything - your predatory practices are one of the reasons youth soccer in this country stinks |
Who the club? you signed a contract for the year. You pay for the year. They may let you get out of the contract, but you're paying. |
I can't trust what you say in the first statement because your 2nd statement is so blatantly wrong. My predatory practices? I'm not affiliated with any club, i don't work for any club, I've never worked or been paid by any club for anything, in fact I'm the one doing all the paying in the "relationship". Now i have signed agreements with clubs in the past, that state that it's a whole year commitment, so I'm speaking from my own experiences - if you can't accept that, then don't comment, you didn't bring anything to the discussion. |
Cool story bra |
There was no contract. It was framed as a deposit which had ZERO additional attached terms. Maybe the team needs better lawyers. Assume there are no conditions or ongoing financial obligations in writing with the club. The question relates to leagues ECNL, MLSN, GA - do any hold kids to their selection now before a roster is submitted or player cards are even created? |
| If the club digs in hire an attorney and turn up the heat. They will release fast. Business decision. |
|
The leagues don't care at this point for the fall season because player cards have not been issued. Each league has a deadline in which clubs must submit their rosters.
Notify the first club that you will not be joining in the fall. They will keep your deposit and you are free to sign with another club. |
if there was no contract, what did you agree to? playing both sides, if there is no contract, then they could sign 20 more kids and tell you that your player doesn't have a spot now. if you are accepting something, i have a hard time believing the club isn't signing you - unless you are at a small club that isn't playing in one of the larger leagues - which i doubt becuase those clubs/leagues that don't worry about signing a player likely haven't had tryouts yet. |
They wouldn't rescind an offer because that would mean the club is giving up money...if they signed 20 more kids, then your kid might be the 21st kid and guess what they're going to have 21 on the roster becasue of injuries or whatnot. There are plenty of clubs/teams with rosters over 18 |
| You simply email them and tell them your kid has decided to join another club. They keep your deposit and that's it. |
| Most clubs will let you out of contr and ct if season has not started. |
