My player accepted an offer a couple of weeks ago for the 2025-2026 year with team 1. We paid the deposit. We now have a later-arriving offer from team 2 which may be a better fit. Besides losing our deposit, are there any prohibitions against withdrawing an acceptance months before the beginning of the 2025-2026 competition year?
it might not be considered a deposit - did you read the fine print? most clubs view it as a whole year commitment and it's an installment plan paid over the course of the year, but you're on the hook for the whole thing.
They’re not on the hook for anything - your predatory practices are one of the reasons youth soccer in this country stinks
Who the club? you signed a contract for the year. You pay for the year. They may let you get out of the contract, but you're paying.
There was no contract. It was framed as a deposit which had ZERO additional attached terms. Maybe the team needs better lawyers. Assume there are no conditions or ongoing financial obligations in writing with the club. The question relates to leagues ECNL, MLSN, GA - do any hold kids to their selection now before a roster is submitted or player cards are even created?
if there was no contract, what did you agree to? playing both sides, if there is no contract, then they could sign 20 more kids and tell you that your player doesn't have a spot now. if you are accepting something, i have a hard time believing the club isn't signing you - unless you are at a small club that isn't playing in one of the larger leagues - which i doubt becuase those clubs/leagues that don't worry about signing a player likely haven't had tryouts yet.
