What do we do??

There is analysis and bad news everywhere. Nobody I know, including the people who voted for our current president, is happy. Other than calling our representatives, what can we do? Feeling so hopeless and just want to do something. Can’t believe it’s gotten so bad. Do we just wait and watch the bleeding continue? How do we stop the bleeding? Collectively, surely we can do something? Jeff, I’ve been reading your blog posts - clearly you are very knowledgeable and bright. Any ideas?

I like this historian and Heather Cox Richardson. Someone said here that it will take years to devolve, so be sure to keep the mentality of the long haul and to take breaks. Not everything needs to be done today/this week/this year. Find a focus. Mine is Russia/allies and fair voting. Yours may be electing women or building community. Someone else might fund legal stuff and build a community garden. I think we divide and conquer.

This perspective was interesting, that we’re not going back, we’re going forward. There’s something refreshing in that for me. At the end of darkness is light. Let’s make the dark as short as possible.

Gee, you sound like a conservative. We've always lived spend thrifty, independent and had a substantial emergency fund.

They key is to never accept that we were beaten in a democratic election. We have to think of this as an illegitimate coup. We can’t plan for the next election. We have to respond DAILY to Trump. It would have been much easier in the recent past and will be much easier in the future if Dems can just nominate normal/average POTUS candidates that would prevent someone as awful as Trump from ever gaining the power of the POTUS office. What you are suggesting sounds like going around your arse to get to your elbow.

The reality is that--as awful Trump is, he did (barely) win the popular vote (against an historically weak candidate).

This isn't just Trump issue, there are a lot of people who voted for him. It's no use denying this. You can protest and make phone calls, but I truly believe that the only way out is through. Give MAGA the wheel and let them drive the country off a cliff. Focus on tending your garden and keeping yourself sane and healthy.

Sometimes you just have to step back and let the wild fires burn themselves out.
