Maybe we can get some Republicans to explain.
For example, we produce very little of our own aluminum. It takes 2-3 years in the US to build a large aluminum plant, which means we are stuck importing for a few years and paying more. Also, who would invest to build a plant when Trump changes his mind by the hour? 25%, then 50%, make a carve out for some favors etc. No business is going to invest in an asset that needs to be profitable for a long run to make it worth the cost, when there is constant change. |
The goal is to trash the US and the US Economy. Look at everything taking place through that lens, and it all makes perfect sense. |
But why do trump/muck want to destroy the US economy? How does this benefit them? |
Trump doesn’t actually believe in tariffs. He uses tariffs as a negotiation tool. He threatens our trade partners with tariffs to force them to buy more goods from us and to bring their manufacturing plants in the US. The problem is that our trade partners already know he is bluffing and are not taking his threats seriously anymore. This is why he is backtracking and changing his mind by the hour. He is a bad negotiator. |
Mo $$$$$$$$!!!!! |
see the authoritarian playbook |
No.
Trump has a fixation with President McKinley. That's why he is calling for tarriffs and annexations. It's exactly what McKinley did. For so reason they think it was the greatest America has ever been. |
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt can not. And she got super pissy at the reporter who corrected her incorrect statements about what a tariff is

Lumber tariffs are the worse. It stifles my DIY projects. |
"Trump has a fixation with President McKinley."
McKinley was assassinated, which enabled Teddy Roosevelt. JD may be the modern-day TR. How many assassination attempts will Trump survive. The question must keep Trump awake at night. A broken clock is correct twice a day. |
The worst part is that many citizens of those countries now boycott American products. Even if he backtracks we lose.
A targeted tariff on something we can onshore or ramp up quickly may work (like cheap Chinese clothing). But heavy industry can’t just ramp up production, and new facilities take years and require a stable environment where they know the tariffs will last for many years. He’s doing tariffs about the worst way possible. |
In Europe on business trip. For all those who believe that the world is afraid of Trump - that is fantastical thinking. They spent an hour playing Trump clips and laughing hysterically. |
JD is not anything like TR, who created national parks and busted the trusts.JD loves robber barons. |
McKinley himself realized he was wrong about tariffs and changed his policy. |
There is no logic. |
