The goal is all eyes on Trump like a circus |
[mastodon] look
They are all shorting the stock. MC and UMC families will lose equity. The wealthy get wealthier. |
It’s actually pretty simple. Trump wants to see himself on news. Lately the best way to do it is by targeting our allies with tariffs against stereotypical goods. France? wine. China? Electronics first the Everything. Canada? Raw materials.
You know how a good movie needs an interesting bad guy that gets all the attention? That’s Trump right now. There is no economic or political reason that makes sense. It’s is just pure narcissism. Remember how he would always jump to the front of picture when all the world leaders were walking to meetings? Yeah. That guy again. |
MAGA here. The tariffs were sold as a way to extract concessions from other nations or to be reciprocal for what other nations have on us. However, that explanation only takes you so far, particularly with Canada and Mexico.
So yeah, I think they are shorting stock. That's the only explanation that I can find that seems to answer the question of "why are they doing this" fully. They are not giving explanations that make sense, and they are spending a lot of time taking the piss out of "Gov Trudeau" which seems like a diversionary tactic. |
We need tariffs to onshore manufacturing, create jobs, raise revenue, and restore our industrial capacity so we can even compete in case of war. We had lots of tariffs in the 19th century, and the economy grew faster then than in the free trade area. Got it? |
Just because tariffs haven’t recently been favored by Goldman Sachs or Google or the DNC doesn’t mean they are “inexplicable.” Current Conventional wisdom is that free trade is always better for everyone than tariffs; actual economic history shows this not to be true. |
When we assume that Trump “os just trying to destroy the economy” or “ he mist be shorting stock,” we reveal what slaves to the current consensus we are. Almost none of us are economists, so we are basing our apparently VERY strong views about tariffs on what he hear from billionaire-owned newspapers and anti-American professors. The world is more complicated than smart Dems vs stupid Trump. |
The most minimal knowledge of economic history will tell you that back then, the US had a comparative advantage in heavy industrials. That cost advantage has shifted to southeast Asian countries. The US has shifted to the knowledge economy, which requires college educated workers, rather than physically skilled workers. You can raise revenue from American knowledge and software corporations just fine. Your thinking is stuck in the 19th and mid 20th century |
No. I’m an economist. Actual economic history does show free trade generates HUGE gains for all nations: they’re simply not evenly distributed. The logic of the mixed economy state of the late 20th century is to allow free trade to generate the gains, and have the State redistribute to those negatively impacted. We have not always held the second part of the bargain. |
Lastly, the reason tariffs were a thing in the past was because the Port was what the nation could control. A Nation can’t enforce taxation on a mass scale in a rural agrarian nation, like withholding income tax. A modern Nation like western liberal democracies are able to extract revenue from more points in the system than the Port. again, this is basic economic history. |
post script: OP, your first mistake was approaching about this whole tariff kerfuffle with critical thinking. Trump is going against his own National Economic Council with these antics. They make no economic sense, they make no geopolitical sense, they make no political sense. It’s just an old man airing his grievances. |
Are you familiar with the concept of the Butterfly Revolution? The tech bros want to take over the country. They feel they need to destroy everything so they can re-build it the way they want. If all goes according to plan, they will divide the US up into fiefdoms and each will become a leader of that fiefdom with a "chairman of the board" (as Trump is trying to be now) and a "president" (as musk is trying to be now). The first step is campaigning on autocracy. The second step is dismantling the federal workforce. After that, they will dismantle elite institutions, the courts, media, and Congress... |
You can read HOW FASCISM WORKS by Jason Stanley, too. Or see if you can find articles by him or others who study dictatorships online. "Make Hungary Great Again" came from Orban. Trump stole the idea. |
Thankfully most intelligent people immediately see through you, but hopefully your target audience laps it up Svetlana. |
We know he doesn't read, so how did he learn about McKinley? |
