| Is there anyone who works here who feels that they work for a company with integrity? I’m not sure how much more I can take. Working for MCPS feels to me like working for the mafia. Is there anywhere in this system that isn’t crooked? |
| Are you working in a school building or CO? |
| Different poster here, in a school. I really like my coworkers but do not have a lot of confidence in anyone higher up. |
Elaborate more on why you feel the way you feel? Are you witnessing crooked behavior daily? If so, like what? |
| It helps to work at a school where you feel like leadership is decent and like you're contributing to something good. I've worked at four schools during my time in MCPS and good leadership has made a huge difference for me. |
This is the key. It's so dependent on your work site and immediate leadership. I'm very happy within the confines of my current building with the immediate day-to-day. I like my coworkers and my administrators are great. It's when the tentacles of MCPS several levels above that start mucking around like a bull in a china shop, or when something out of the ordinary happens that requires more exposure to The Machine, that it breaks down. I am so sick of ephemeral trainings and initiatives and that always comes from some out-of-touch weirdo way up in CO following whatever fad is going around. |

I would look for better culture, myself.
Just saw the lying, lying by omission, gaslighting, falsification up close (parent of dyslexic). Truly an educated bunch - who uses said education for ill. I have not seen anything in the years since to indicate a radical change - and the last two supers were/are selfish empty suits. The worst was smith, though. Try to find a place that is more in the light. I wish you great luck! |
Same. I still talk to colleagues about an old Principal we had 10+ years ago. She completely ran everyone out and ruined the morale. She was promoted to CO and is still there btw. Now I’m working at a school where Admin treats teachers like colleagues, not subordinates, and it makes a world of difference. I will never feel like CO, the BOE, or anyone who works outside the classroom truly understands what we do. I also agree that there’s crookedness, lack of transparency and lack of accountability the higher up you go. |
So vague….what are you specifically talking about? |
|
Same here we had a year when there was off the chart violence on a daily basis and the sports teams were assaulting fellow players. When teachers tried to make reports it seemed like admin turned on us and many of us teachers lost our jobs. Admins were shuffled around and promote after their coverups
I don't understand it because I think I remember specifically being instructed that teachers are mandatory reporters. Alot of us were just doing as we were instructed and then were retaliated against. |
| Yes! As an elementary teacher, I’ve watched how they’ve gutted sped all in the name of LRE. Meanwhile, no kids are getting what they need and as a teacher, I’m powerless. I’m just glad that my kids (especially mine that was in many programs and has a robust IEP) are in college now. Parents have no idea what we see and deal with on a daily basis. |

Yes, I feel like I am in a toxic relationship. I do love my school and admin and co-workers, but the mandates from CO are unsustainable.
I no longer give 150% of myself. I do as much as I can on a given day, but try not worry about the rest. I no longer fall for the it's in the 'best interests of the student' line or 'give them grace'. I decided to give myself as much grace as MCPS expects me to give my students. If they don't like I what I do day-to-day, I will walk away. This will be my last year. |
| Has anything improved under Taylor? |
Most of Taylor's new cabinet doesn't start until July 1. |
As a parent I'm automatically quasi disgusted with anyone who works for mcps before we even begin a conversation. I've found over the years that everyone who works here knows they're doing a worse job for the kids than they could. You'd never catch me screwing over children for a job when other jobs exist. |
