It actually makes great financial sense. That part of the club is not for profit so is only helpful for some meager cash flow. TSJ is a regular for profit business. |
How do you think all of this actually works? The GA teams need the lower teams to exist for the money coming in. The GA teams are not self-sufficient. |
The GA operation is higher margin than the non-profit teams |
Maybe if you’re dividing the salaries of the Directors and the field rental costs across the entire club, but in reality the directors spend about zero time with non-GA players and the non-GA teams practice and play almost exclusively at Bles. |
Is it true FCV will no longer have boys teams? |
Correct. No more boys for Loudoun based FCV. Only U-little boys in Springfield. |
Regardless of which "side" makes more money, TSJFCV can't distribute any excess revenue (profit) from the non-profit side to the for-profit side. My guess is TSJ isn't really in this game to support youth soccer as a charity organization unless it results in more paying memberships for the TSJ sports club. That seems unlikely as long as most of it's players are in Loudoun county. This is one reason why many ppl think TSJFCV's business base will slowly migrate away from the Evergreen area to Springfield. The COVID thing has probably forestalled some of this, as I imagine TSJ owners have bigger problems than their youth soccer side. But at what point does the United non-profit beside become a boat anchor? Might be interesting to see how their United enrollment is going this year. |
And how much $ do you think that a large facility like TSJ will make in a COVID-19 environment? It's a huge facility that most athletic teams can't even use at this point. They still have to cap their activities per the phase II guidance and disinfect all the equipment. That isn't cheap. I'll bet it costs more to clean a facility that size than they are bringing in. |
This is not true. Almost all of the FCV teams (ex-DA/GA and United) practice at Evergreen now. We haven't been to Bles since last Fall. Even then it was only for a handful of games. |
Nobody has been at field since last fall cough, Covid, cough. Bles sucks in the early spring because it is a swamp. Early spring practices are rarely scheduled at Bles due to field conditions and no lights. |
which is why our kids team practiced at Evergreen and Dulles SportsPlex in Feb/early March! ![]() |
Right. In a normal year, United teams are at Bles about 75-80% of the time and I'm sure the plan will be for them to be back there in the Fall. GA teams are at Evergreen about 5x as much as non-GA, but someone feels the need to nitpick that statement. ![]() |
Wow. So where are those teams going? Is Ricky Burke moving to another club? |
Yes, he’s moved to the Washington Spirit. Heard of them? |
