I read this story with horror, as compounded semaglutide (which I can afford) has helped me lose weight and improve my health. I found this story unclear and don’t see it corroborated in other papers. Is it actually being banned? If so, is there a way to still get it? |
Reading isn’t your strong suit. |
Compounds are permitted where there is a shortage. Per FDA, there is no longer a shortage. So compounding pharmacies must wind down their operations within the next 60 days. Likely after 90 days you won’t be able to get it. |
Thank you 10:17. |
Will there be appeals, delaying the timeframe? |
On what grounds? |
No one is "banning" anything. Wegovy is on patent. The only reason compounding was allowed is because there was a shortage of the medication. No more shortage, no more compounding. This was always going to be the case.
It is likely that compounders will add something like B vitamins and claim they are selling something "different," but they can't get away with that and they know it, they will just do it to buy some time to keep making money before Novo's lawyers shut it down. Which they will do relatively quickly. My guess is that before the year is through you will no longer be able to buy compounded semaglutide. |
Yes. Buy the brand name drug. |
If you really need it, you can get a prescription from your doctor. If you are using it for vanity purposes then no, you won’t be able to get it. |
The cost difference is huge. My obese father who is pre-diabetic has used compounded to great success. His insurance won't pay for it because he's not full blown diabetic, and the brand name is prohibitively expensive on his fixed income.
It is criminal that this life saving drug can be made and sold at a tiny fraction of the price and that is not allowed. |
Criminal? You can debate the costs overall, and that the branded versions should be less expensive. But being so dumb that you are unable to realize production costs don’t translate to value is remarkable. Software scales free too. Should that also cost pennies? How much of your labor do you give away for free? |
We dan hope. |
Not criminal. Imagine you’d invested millions upon millions into developing a product and someone ripped it off, selling it for a fraction of the cost, thereby making a killing themselves. I support the drug companies who developed these miracle drugs. And I’m someone who does take the compounded version for vanity. I would gladly pay more for name brand if I could get it prescribed to me. |
I agree. |
You are disgusting |
