2025 staffing calendar

Does anyone know when the staffing calendar will be updated for this year? Info on the website is still from last year.

I heard that staffing comes out March 6th. It is really late this year. Hopefully, it is posted soon.

Last year, the staffing calendar started in the beginning of February. HR is behind this year. Maybe they’re waiting for CO people to get placed first? Also, I wish there was more transparency about positions being allocated to schools. I don’t trust all Principals to actually hire for the staffing they’ve been allocated. RTs have no way of knowing if hiring and staffing is being done with fidelity. For example, a school gets a 1.0 Science position, but the principal would rather hire an Art teacher instead. The Science RT wouldn’t have any idea if the Principal didn’t feel like telling them. I worry that some Principals are shady with staffing (not naming names).

I have worked with one principal in 20+ years who was completely transparent with the staffing they received. Many others would be deceitful and straight up lie about what they received from CO about their allocations.

The allocations aren’t by department- they are based on school enrollment and 7 periods per day. Plus extra heads for various release periods. It’s up to the principals to allocate according to course selection, but they can adjust that based on desired balance among departments. For example, our HS has a popular science elective that they limit the number of sections for (e.g. only 5 instead of 8) to force kids to take electives in other departments.

I wouldn’t say it’s “shady”, because those types of decisions are the prerogative, but most of the time it’s not transparent. I don’t think it really can be because everyone would have different opinions about school priorities. But hopefully there are competent APs involved and the school at least makes it clear what some of the major guidelines shaping staffing are in any given year.

A couple of weeks into March, but no exact date given. Very late this year with no explanation as to why. Frustrating.

Our school has already indicated that there will be involuntary transfers due to budget cuts

How is an involuntary transfer a budget cut? The county will still be paying the teacher.

Is it possible that your schools projected enrollment is decreasing and that is why they anticipate transfers?

Correct. Let's not start rumors, there isn't even a final budget. Involuntary transfers will be communicated by March 21. It's not even March yet.

Admin are shady as sht especially when manipulating new teachers to inflate data and bury reports of violence.

1. The county cuts the budget and reduces each school’s teacher allocations, 2. They involuntarily transfer that extra teacher to a school that was otherwise going to hire a new teacher, 3. That means the county is now not hiring the new teacher, and thus reducing the budget.

I don't know how anybody is existing in this county and not realizing there will be budget cuts next year. Thousands of residents are losing their jobs. When people lose their jobs, they no longer pay income taxes. Who knows how many won't be able to pay their mortgage payments and property taxes. MCPS is not going to emerge from this unscathed and certainly not with the increases Taylor asked for.

There is no proposal to cut the budget or to reduce each school's teacher allocations.

This budget is not finalized as the County Council has not yet discussed or approved it.
