Is it possible that your schools projected enrollment is decreasing and that is why they anticipate transfers?

1. The county cuts the budget and reduces each school’s teacher allocations, 2. They involuntarily transfer that extra teacher to a school that was otherwise going to hire a new teacher, 3. That means the county is now not hiring the new teacher, and thus reducing the budget.

There is no proposal to cut the budget or to reduce each school's teacher allocations.

This budget is not finalized as the County Council has not yet discussed or approved it.

Yes. Which is why spreading rumors of budget cuts is irresponsible.

How is it irresponsible? Budget cuts are highly likely.

PP said "Our school has already indicated that there will be involuntary transfers due to budget cuts." I consider that irresponsible, considering the only proposal on the table thus far is a budget increase.

Agree with PP and wonder how true that he even is. No staff numbers were even given out yet. Almost feels like a made up post

Is there a chance that the BOE has to delay the budget because of the administration and some of this things rolling out. If we lose federal funding MCPS will need to cut even more and if they agree to federal funding they will need to make additional cuts to things like the DEI co staff. Is anyone worried about this?

I imagine they would just join/change the name to office of student engagement or some other fluff.

Things are going to be up in the air regarding the federal government all year, they can't just wait to approve the budget that long.

We’ve had to make changes to the approved budget in the past in response to big economic shifts (2008-2010). They have to move forward with what they have now.

Personally, I expect something will be updated by May/June (less $$) and possibly a freeze on anything that can be delayed rolling through next year.

That all makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

For those of us looking to transfer, this waiting is not fun. Hurry up already MCPS! It’s already March 4th. This time last year people had new positions already.

Admins are still being moved around. They will change some people’s minds about going or staying.

Principals got their staffing today. Did anyone hear about the timeline? When is the job fair?

Starting to see a few FY26 positions getting posted. Hopefully schools will start loading the jobs they know they need to fill soon.

As involuntary transfers still have 2 weeks to be notified and need to be placed after that, I'd not expect any voluntary transfer job fairs to be soon.
