DOGE access--Please explain to me like I'm five...

Anonymous
I can understand the first agency they visited not knowing better and allowing DOGE inside.

But, why would the IRS let the racist Jewish-hating programmer inside and give them access to the tax info for everyone in the United States of America? Especially after seeing how they gutted other agencies?

Please tell me why everyone has to let DOGE into their offices when they are not real government workers and are unqualified....?

I posted this on the taxes thread

Someone needs to explain why Musk should have access to:

-public's social security numbers
-public's health records
-public's banking records
-public's tax returns

Explain it to me like I am 5, because all I am seeing is the biggest heist of private data in the history of the world.

I didn't even know about the health records. How did he get access to those?

DOGE works for The President of the United States of America, you know, the person who WON the last election.

Why aren’t you finding anyone who can win NEXT time?

What does hating Jews have to do with an IRS audit? Did you mean to post this in religion?

Who is doing an audit? Do you know what an audit is?

What does this response have to do with the question OP asked?

Okay, let's break it down like you're five:

Imagine you have a big toy box, and you're the only one who should open it because you know where all your toys go. But then, someone new comes along, saying they're from a special club called DOGE, and they want to look through your toy box to make sure everything is okay. Even though they don't really work in your house, the grown-ups in charge decide to let them in.

First Agency: They let DOGE in because they thought maybe this special club could help make their toy box (which is like an office) better or cleaner. They didn't know better because it was the first time they saw DOGE.

The IRS's Turn: Now, the IRS is like another big toy box but with everyone's secret toy information in it. Even though they saw what happened with other places, they might have thought:

They Were Told To: Sometimes, when the big boss (like the President or someone high up) tells you to do something, you have to listen, even if you don't want to. They might have been told to let DOGE check their toys, even if it seems strange.
Hoping for Good: Maybe they thought DOGE could find a way to make sure no one is hiding toys or not sharing properly, even if they know DOGE isn't perfect or nice to everyone.
Rules and Promises: DOGE probably promised not to mess up or look at things they shouldn't, kind of like when you make a pinky promise. But, just like a pinky promise, sometimes people don't keep their word.

Why Let Them In? The big reason is that sometimes, even if you don't want someone in your space, if they're sent by the person in charge, you have to let them in. It's like when your mom says your cousin can play with your toys even if you don't like them.

And even though DOGE isn't a real part of the government, they're allowed in because they're working with the people at the very top, who can make these big decisions. It's not about being qualified; it's more about following the orders from the highest authority.

Remember, this is very grown-up stuff, and sometimes the reasons adults do things might seem confusing or unfair, just like when you have to share your toys with someone you don't like.

I’d like to know this too. If I sauntered into a government building demanding access to classified information, I’m sure I’d be escorted out by security. For the initial onslaughts, Musk had zero official government position and still has no clearances. Is being known as a friend of Trump somehow magically enough to open doors? And to allow him to fire people?

Clearly he’s getting his money’s worth — at the expense of citizens and taxpayers.

Years ago, were you one of those "but her emails" people?

What happened to those "but her emails" folks? You sold your souls? Do not care about security clearance anymore? Do not care about laws anymore?

People who denied access to DOGE were threatened with criminal prosecution, loss of their jobs, vague bad things, etc.

The answer is fear.

Great job, PP! Hope everyone understands now.

A simpler explanation: those who actually control access to IRS systems value their jobs more than standing up for principle. Knowing you can be fired or Riffed if you displease the masters, they roll over. Not saying I wouldn’t do the same thing - it’s a hard choice.
