It’s just so offensive to say the Catholic Church helps immigrants to make money off it and not because helping immigrants and the poor is a core part of Catholic teaching.

They are trying to transform the Catholic Church into something that is akin to the evangelical church.

This is the difference between a cradle vs. convert Catholic. I don't see the cradle Catholics wearing those doilies on their head.

Possibly. As a cradle Catholic I am under no illusions as to where I fit in the hierarchy. I'm, as a lay person, at the bottom of it. So is Vance.

Is Vance Catholic? I thought he was a hillbilly from the mountains of Appalachia by way of Ohio factory workers. Critics pointed out that with his grandfather, he wasn't exactly poverty stricken. His grandfather had a good union job. Vance just doesn't want that for anyone else. Anyway, I thought the Scots-Irish descendants in the U.S., like Vance, are mostly Presbyterian and not Roman Catholic.

He was attacking the USCCB, the Catholic Bishops' Conference, which is the US' highest authority of leadership within the Catholic Church. If they aren't Catholic, then who is, exactly? Certainly not JD Vance.

He converted. My family also is Scots Irish but converted to Catholicism. But 100 years ago or so.

Vance converted in 2019-ish - or at least announced it then.

Vance’s comment was directed at USCCB - council of Catholic bishops. Cardinal Dolan, who spoke at the inauguration last week, had to make a statement defending the work they do with migrants.
