Why is it that gay men are more educated than any other demographic, in terms of four year degrees and post graduate degrees, while straight men are going to college less and less?

My feelings are that you’re basing intelligence on degrees and it comes in many forms as lots of people with degrees can’t hold a simple conversation at a party so give me emotional intelligence, anytime and it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or straight t have it.

Because low income guys don't admit to being gay and are on the down low despite engaging in the same activities.

Gay men are also the least likely to live in poverty.

This part is easy… no obligations.

Straight men do not possess fabulousness, an appreciation for the finer things, hedonism and a search for perfection in their home, dress and body.

A straight guy would be happy with a 75 inch TV and a mattress on the floor, if that is the height of luxury for them then the bar is set pretty low. A gay man would scour the planet for the perfect vintage Hermes trunk to use as an end table.

If you want nicer things in life then those cost money, if you want them bad enough you’ll work extra hard to get them, so it’s not a surprise to me that gay men on average are better educated and make more.

I think it’s selection bias. Successful and together people are more likely to be open about being gay and move in circles where it’s more accepted. If you are less successful, there are a host of reasons why you might feel more pressure to stay closeted.

Survival.

A friend was born in 1966 to a Mexican immigrant teen mom and a Mexican-American construction worker. His first memory is his dad beating him for reaching for his sister’s doll rather than a toy hammer. His mom did all sorts of odd jobs so that she could send him to college so he would be safe.

Straight men, particularly white, are being promoted less and less and selected in competitive processes less and less as those doing the selections are being actively encouraged to discriminate against them. Sure, someone will immediately say “white guys just can’t handle the competition”. And to that, I would just answer, you haven’t seen the blatant discrimination that has permeated education and corporations.

Meh. As a gay man I take both articles with a grain of salt. For the Pew article about gender gaps in college, in case you hadn't noticed the perceived prestige and benefit of colleges has taken a massive nosedive in the last 10 years, with some justification.

As for gay men, maybe it just comes down to the hardwiring and that the cliched stereotypes of gay men not interested in hard work physical labor has some truth to it (sorry for all the blue collar gay male fiction).

I dunno, my kid just came out as gay so I hope this is true! My guess is that it has to do with (mostly) not having kids, more equity between partners so nobody’s career takes a back burner, and possible better relationships with women in a way that helps with soft skills to succeed in the workplace? lack of toxic masculinity that is triggered specifically by women? Honestly one of the first thoughts I had when he came out was “Oh good, so many more people he can be friends with since he can be friends with girls.”
