THE LOW ON TUESDYA WILL BE 4

That’s funny. And the low is right at 7am, when alot of kids are at the bus stop. I wouldn’t put it past them to close school.

It’s going to snow Sunday, now we get to throw an inauguration party on Monday!

No way. They aren't going to close for cold. Have they ever done that? I've had kids in FCPS since 2015 and don't remember that ever happening.

Can only remember one time in last 10 years, but do remember.

How many snow days does FCPS have reserved this year? I can find online had 11 for 22-23, but can’t find for 24-25. Did someone say 7 in the longer snow thread? Where can we find that online and why # was reduced by almost 1/2?

I know it did once in 2018. Not sure about before that. It was single-digit cold, not much warmer during the day, and crazy wind chill - like 30+mph wind IIRC. Busses not starting was one problem. Wind chill for walkers or kids waiting at bus stops was another. It was actually a legit frostbite/hypothermia risk, especially for kids sitting at a bus stop for an hour+ waiting for a bus that wouldn't start.

We supposedly have 10, however when the early release Mondays were created, the Superintendent said it could be done because we were above the 990 seat hours that the state requires and there was a throw-away comment about how the built-in snow days buffer that requirement. Now that we have had 4, there has not been clarification on how many hours elementary and secondary have left.

My understanding is we started with 14 snow days and elementary dropped to 10 after they added the early release Mondays. We used 4 of those days last week as well as 2 hours for the delay so we have somewhere between 5 and 6 days left.

In the past, I know FCPS has done a 2 hour delay for temps below 10°. If we hadn't had school closed last week, I would be sure they would do a 2 hour delay on Tuesday but I would bet Reid will push for a regular start unless a ton of the buses don't start in the morning.

Unless we get snow and then it's anyone's guess as to what goes down.

My weather app no longer shows snow now.

During the Polar Vortex they closed. It was so cold that if you took water outside and threw it into the air, it turned to snow

We did not have 14 - that's the number of sick days teachers get. It is 10.

Do they close school when they can't get the busses started?
